Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test 2024 is an initiative of Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti - an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Education, Government of India - for students who wish to seek admission to Classes 6 and 9 in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) for the academic year 2024-25.

This scheme aims to provide high-quality modern education, encomassing a vital cultural component, to talented children predominantly from rural areas irrespective of their family's socio-economic conditions. The scheme also promotes national integration by facilitating student exchanges between Hindi-speaking and non-Hindi-speaking states.

Under this scheme, students will receive free education in JNVs, along with provisions for accommodation, meals, uniforms, and textbooks.

    Eligibility

    To meet the eligibility criteria, an applicant must:

    • be born between 1st May 2012 and 31st July 2014 (both dates are inclusive)
    • be a bonafide resident of the respective district/state where the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya is located

    For students enrolling in Class 6:

    • be currently studying in Class 5 during the academic session 2023-24 in a government/government-recognized institution/school, or other recognized schools, or
    • be pursuing a 'B' certificate competency course from the National Institute of Open Schooling in the same district where the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) is situated
    • have successfully completed Classes 3 to 5 from a government/government-recognized school

     

    For students enrolling in Class 9:

    • be currently studying in Class 8 at a government or government-recognized school during the ongoing session

     

    Note:

    • Candidates who have passed Class 5 before the session 2023-24 or repeated candidates are not allowed.
    • NVS has the right to compare the application data of previous year(s) to identify the candidates who are taking the test for the second time. If noticed, such candidates will not be allowed to appear for JNVST 2024.
    • Candidates passing ‘B’ certificate competency course of the National Institute of Open Schooling on or before 15th September 2023 are also eligible to write the admission test provided if they belong to the prescribed age group.
    Benefits

    The selected candidates will be eligible to receive free education in JNVs, along with provisions for accommodation, meals, uniforms, and textbooks. 

    Additionally, the following expenditures for students in JNVs are covered by the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS):

    • Travel Expenditure: The NVS bears the cost of travel for students in III AC train or AC bus when they need to travel for official purposes or to and from their homes during vacations.
    • Medical Expenditure: Any necessary medical expenses incurred by students during their stay in JNVs are covered by the NVS, ensuring access to proper healthcare facilities.
    • CBSE Fee: The NVS covers the fees associated with CBSE exams, ensuring that students can appear for these examinations without any financial burden.
    Documents

    The following documents are required to be uploaded in the prescribed format while filling the online application form:

    • Candidate's signature (size of signature should be between 10-100 kb)
    • Parent's signature (size of signature should be between 10-100 kb)
    • Candidate's photograph (size of image should be between 10-100 kb)
    • Certificate signed by parent & candidate and verified by Headmaster (size of image should be between 50-300 kb)

     

    The following documents are required to be submitted at the time of admission to the Principal of JNV concerned in person:

    • Passing certificate of Class 5 from the district concerned
    • Certificate by the Head Master of the school regarding study
      details
    • Proof of date of birth (A copy of birth certificate issued by competent Government Authority concerned)
    • Residence certificate [A valid residential proof (as notified Govt. of India) of the parent of the same District where the JNV is located & candidate has studied class 5]
    • Aadhar Card of the student (As per section 7 of Aadhaar act, 2016, the provisionally selected candidate has to submit a copy of considering benefits of the Navodaya Vidyalaya Scheme)
    • Undertaking by the parent/guardian to pay Vidyalaya Vikas Nidhi every month as per norms of NVS (Note: All students of Class 6 to 8, SC, ST, Girls, Divyang students & wards of BPL parents are exempted from VVN)
    • Medical fitness certificate
    • Disability certificate (if applicable)
    • Category/community certificate (SC/ST) [if applicable]
    • Category/community certificate OBC, as per central list (if applicable)

     

    Note:

    • The TC from the parent school after the verification of documents and confirmation of admission by the respective JNV is required to be submitted after getting a counter signature from District Education Authorities (DEO/BEO etc.)
    • After verification of documents submitted, JNVs will confirm the admission, if the candidate is found eligible as per NVS norms.
    How can you apply?

    Eligible candidates can apply for the opportunity by following the below-mentioned steps:
    Step 1: Click on the 'Apply Now' button.
    Step 2: Click the 'Register' button and fill in the required registration details. (Note - If already registered, log in using Gmail/Mobile number/Email Id)
    Step 3: Navigate to 'Click here for Class VI Registration 2024' and click on it.
    Step 4: Fill in the required details and click on submit button to 'Register'.
    Step 5: After successful registration, fill in the details, upload the necessary documents in the prescribed format and submit.

     

    Note: The process of submission of online application involves only a single stage.

Important Dates

Last Date to Register (Class 6 candidates) - 10th August 2023
Phase 1 Examination (Winter Bound JNVs) - 4th November 2023
Phase 2 Examination (Summer Bound JNVs) - 20th January 2024

Selection Criteria

The candidates will be selected based on the following criteria:

  • The applicants are required to register on the official website of JNVST and submit the online application form.
  • After successful registration, an entrance examination will be conducted.
  • After the examination, shortlisted candidates will be selected based on their performance in the entrance examination. Finally, they will be invited for the document verification process.
Terms and Conditions
  • At least 75% of seats in the district will be filled by candidates residing in rural areas.
  • A minimum of 1/3rd of the seats are reserved for girl students.
  • The admit cards will be made available as per the date decided by NVS in due course which will be displayed on the application portal.
  • The admit cards shall be downloaded free of cost by the candidates/parents before the conduct of JNVST.
  • Provisional selection in the test will not guarantee admission to the JNV.
  • Until admission is secured to a JNV, the selection is provisional.
  • Candidates are advised to apply for TC from the parent school, only after the verification of documents and confirmation of admission by the respective JNV.
  • At the time of seeking actual admission, each provisionally selected candidate will have to produce all relevant original certificates, as prescribed by the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti.
  • In case of any dispute, the decision of Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti shall be final and binding on the candidates and no correspondence to this effect shall be entertained.
  • There is no provision for re-evaluation of the answer scripts or re-totalling of marks since the result is processed through the computer to ensure accuracy.
  • Under no circumstances, the provisionally selected candidate will be given admission to any other JNV.
  • No request for shifting of students on account of the medium of instruction in the JNV concerned, shifting of parents to other districts/states etc. will be entertained.
  • No candidate is eligible to apply for the selection test for the second time, under any circumstances.
  • Particulars filled by the candidate in the application form will be validated and if the candidates are found to be a repeater, they will not be allowed to appear in the selection test. Also, admit cards for such candidates will not be released.
  • No separate reservation for transgender category candidates is provided and they will be included in the boys' category for reservation purposes, under various sub-categories viz rural, urban, OBC, SC, ST and Divyang.
  • The reservations to the OBC candidates shall be implemented as per the central list. The OBC candidates not included in the central list should apply as general candidates.
