Gemological Institute of America Merit Scholarship 2023 is an opportunity offered by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) [a US-based, public benefit and non-profit organization of gemology]. The organization is committed to protecting and educating students in the field of gems and jewellery research. They are offering a scholarship to assist eligible students in reducing their financial burden and focusing on completing their education at the different GIA campuses worldwide. The number and the amount of the scholarship award vary by campus location and the number of qualified applicants. Selected students will receive a one-time tuition fee waiver for their selected courses at the Indian campus of the Gemological Institute of America.

    Eligibility

    To be eligible, an applicant must -

    • be an Indian citizen
    • be of 18 years of age and above
    • be enrolled in a Gemology lab class at the GIA Indian campus

    Note - 

    • Indian citizens permanently/temporarily residing in the US are not eligible to apply.
    • GIA staff and their immediate family members are not eligible for GIA scholarship awards.
    Benefits

    Selected students will receive a one-time tuition fee waiver against their selected courses at the GIA campuses in India.

    • Letter of reference to recommend the applicant for the GIA scholarship that must include-

      • Writer’s information
      • Their relationship with the applicant
      • Reason for recommendation
      • How the scholarship will help the applicants to achieve their goals

    Note -

    • The letter of recommendation must not be handwritten but typed in English or accompanied by an English-language translation.
    • The writer of the letter should be a professional working in an organization. Other acceptable writers include the employees of GIA, church members, teachers, and members of community or non-profit organisations.
    • Letters if available must be written on company letterhead.
    • The letter must be signed and dated within the past 12 months and must include the writer's contact information (name, address, phone, and email address).
    • The letter must be in PDF/Word document/JPEG format. No other format is acceptable.
    How can you apply?

    Eligible candidates can apply for the position using the steps listed below-
    Step 1:
    Click the ‘Apply Now’ button below.
    Step 2: Click on the 'Register' button on the right-hand side of the dashboard and fill in the required details to 'Register'. (Note - If already registered, log in using the registered email ID.)
    Step 3: Click on the ‘Apply Now’ button.
    Step 4: Click on the ‘New Student’ option, provide the required details and carefully read the terms and conditions before clicking on the ‘Submit’ button. (Note - Students who are already registered, can use valid credentials to log in.)
    Step 5: Click on the ‘Password Reset’ button in the email received on the registered email id and set up a password.
    Step 6: Now, click on the ‘Scholarship Application’ option, fill in all the required details and upload the necessary documents to complete the application.

Application Start Date –  15th April 2023
Application End Date – 15th May 2023

Selection Criteria

Candidates will be shortlisted based on the fulfilment of the eligibility criteria.

Terms and Conditions
  • Scholarship funds cannot be used for the cost of books, shipping, housing, meals, travel, applicable local taxes, or miscellaneous expenses.
  • All GIA scholarship awards are applied directly to the recipient’s GIA tuition account; cash funds are not released directly to the students. 
  • Scholarship awards may only be applied to tuition and fees for classes in which the applicant is not yet enrolled.
  • Scholarship recipients are responsible for any tax liabilities that may apply.
  • Each applicant must fully disclose any business relationship he/she has with GIA, including any relationship as a client of the GIA Laboratory.
