Flanders Master Mind Scholarships 2020-21, Belgium is inviting applications from international students to study a Masters programme in Flemish Universities, School of Arts and Antwerp Maritime Academy. The selected students receive a maximum of EUR 8,000 per academic year. The total budget available for the program is EUR 360,000. It is estimated that 30 international students can benefit from these scholarships.

    Eligibility

    To be eligible, the applicant must:

    • Have applied to a Masters degree program at a higher education institution in Flanders
    • Have a high grade of academic potential
    • Have a grade point of average 3.0 out of 4.0
    • Have a good knowledge of English Language
    • Have secured a band score of a minimum of 7.0 on IELTS test
    • Have scored a minimum total score of 94 on TOEFL test
    • Have a C1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference
    • Have at least an overall band score of minimum 6.5 on the IELTS test; a minimum total score of 90 on the TOEFL test; a B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference if the student has applied for Masters program in School of Arts
    • Have been accepted by the Host institution to be able to receive the scholarship
    • Have obtained the previous degree from a higher education institution located outside Flanders 

    Note: An exception is made for international students who, at the moment of their application in Spring 2020, are already enrolled in a preparatory program in order to start a Master's program in September 2020. Student mobility is allowed, however, at least half of the credits of the master program must be obtained at the Flemish Host institution.

    Benefits

    The selected student is awarded a maximum scholarship of EUR 8,000 per academic year.

    • Transcript of records; if written in another language than Dutch, French or English, a certified translation must be enclosed
    • English language test results or letter of the exemption provided by the Host university
    • Letter of motivation written in English
    • Two letters of recommendation from professors of the candidate's previous Home University, University of Applied sciences, School of Arts or recent employer, written in English.
    • Copy of acquired diploma
    • Three reasons of motivation for submission (at least 150 words) of the candidate’s application formulated in English by the Host institution
    How can you apply?

    Follow the steps below to apply for the scholarship:
    Step 1: Visit the web page link here and check out for university-specific information and deadlines.
    Step 2: The applicant needs to send an application to the host institution which should be accepted.
    Step 3: The host institution will then start the application by creating the candidate's application file in the Mobility-Online tool.
    Step 4: The applicant will then receive an email generated by the Mobility-Online tool.
    Step 5: Register in the Mobility-Online tool and complete the application file before the deadline.

Selection Criteria

The selection committee will make the selection after the application deadline, based on the following criteria:

  • The quality of the applicant’s motivation (30 points)
  • Applicant’s previous study results in the Transcript of records (30 points)
  • Reasons for recommending the applicant in recommendation letter 1 (10 points)
  • Reason for recommending the candidate in recommendation letter 2 (10 points)
  • The motivation for submission by the Host institution (10 points)
  • Top talent profile of the applicant (10 points)

  • The duration of mobility is one academic year for a Master's program of 60 ECTS and 2 academic years for a Master's program of 120 ECTS.
  • The students should not combine this scholarship with another scholarship such as Government or Erasmus Mundus scholarship.
  • A maximum of 20 applications can be submitted per Flemish higher education institution.
  • The Host institution can ask the applicant for a tuition fee that equals the lowest rate of the yearly tuition fee for a student who receives a study grant from the Flemish Government.
