After graduating in English (Hons), I completed my MBA in retail management. However due to recession, I did not get a proper job in retail so I joined a leading international school as a non-teaching staff looking after the general administration, warden duties and dorm parenting, etc. During this time, I also completed BEd through distance learning. Is there any course or training in the field of education to enhance the skills of school management?
Like any other sector, the education sector is getting increasingly ‘professionalised’ and ‘corporatised.’ As a result, many structured positions and profiles are opening up in this sector. Besides teaching, exciting and innovative changes are taking place in content, research and delivery mechanisms as well.Positions are usually at three levels: frontend, back-end and a combination of both. The front-end involves teaching, delivery, etc, while the back-end involves researching content and support material, etc. Also there are people who manage the education delivery, teachers, content, replication etc. So, there are many opportunities to look forward to.Introduction of the RTE and the phenomenal growth of secondary education in India have created a huge gap between the demand and supply of qualified administrators, principals, head masters and teachers. To bridge this gap the following institutions offer two-year and one-year PG courses in educational administration/management:Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha Uniersity, University School of Education, Dwarka offers a PG diploma in educational management at it’s affiliated institutions. Ignou offers a PG diploma in teaching and research in management (PGDTRM). The focus of this programme is to train school teachers for the position of principal or headmaster. Similarly, a large number of B-schools don’t have the required number of qualified teachers as per AICTE norms.Jamia Millia Islamia, faculty of education, New Delhi (http://jmi.nic.in/coursesofstudy.htm).
