About The Program

The Ute and György Széll International PhD Scholarship 2026-27 is offered by the Hans Böckler Foundation (Hans-Böckler-Stiftung) (HBS). The scholarship is a prestigious financial award designed to support outstanding international PhD students pursuing research in the social sciences and humanities. Selected candidates will receive a monthly stipend of €1450 and other benefits.

To be eligible, an applicant must:-

  • be enrolled as a PhD student in Social Sciences or Humanities
  • have a research plan describing your doctoral project 
  • secure an invitation from a host PhD supervisor in Germany
  • have a research paper outlining the topic, questions, methodology, and goals of your research in Germany
  • be available for a six-month research stay at a German university, research institute, foundation, or archive

Note:- There is no age limit for applicants.

Benefits

The selected students will receive:

  • A monthly stipend of €1,450 (approx.₹1,52,355.85) for living expenses
  • An annual allowance of €1,300 (approx.₹1,36,594.90) for travel expenses
  • A six-month research stay at a German university or research institution

Eligible applicants can apply by following these steps:-
