About The Program

The TEAGASC Ph.D. Walsh Scholars Opportunity (Dairy) 2025 is a joint research project between Teagasc, University of Limerick, and University College Dublin. It offers Ph.D. opportunities to individuals holding a Master’s degree in a relevant field. Selected candidates will receive a scholarship of EUR 25,000 and up to EUR 6,000 annually towards fees.

*Teagasc – the Agriculture and Food Development Authority – is the national body providing integrated research, advisory and training services to the agriculture and food industry and rural communities.

To be eligible, an applicant must:-

  • possess a good primary degree (first/upper-second class Honours) or M.Sc. in a relevant discipline, including Agricultural, Process, Biosystems or Mechanical Engineering, Agriculture, Dairy or Animal Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or Veterinary Medicine
  • be highly self-motivated with proven ability in problem-solving and data analysis
  • satisfy the specified English language requirements
  • hold a full driving licence

Note:-

  • Experience with statistical or modelling software and data analysis, and knowledge of the dairy industry, milk quality control, or milking technology is desirable.
  • A relevant Master’s degree will offer an advantage for the applicant.
Benefits

Selected candidates will receive a scholarship of EUR 25,000 annually and university fees of up to EUR 6,000 annually. Additionally, candidates will receive structured supervision and targeted research support in two leading research environments, with access to specialised training, cutting-edge facilities, and stakeholder engagement in the dairy and agri-tech sectors. Auxiliary funds will be available for international travel and professional development.
