About The Program

The TEAGASC Ph.D. Walsh Scholars Opportunity 2025 is a joint research project between Teagasc, Cork University Business School (University College Cork), University College Dublin, and the Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute (AFBI). It offers two Ph.D. opportunities to individuals holding a Master’s degree in a relevant field. Selected candidates will receive a scholarship of EUR 25,000 and up to EUR 6,000 annually towards fees.

*Teagasc – the Agriculture and Food Development Authority – is the national body providing integrated research, advisory and training services to the agriculture and food industry and rural communities.

EligibilityDeadline Date: Closed

For opportunity 1, applicants must possess:-

  • an honours degree in a relevant discipline relating to operations research, business analytics, data science, computer science, food science, agricultural/food engineering or system engineering
  • strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • proficiency in Python for predictive and prescriptive (optimisation) modelling

For opportunity 2, applicants must:-

  • possess a good primary degree (first/upper-second class Honours) or M.Sc. in a relevant discipline, including agricultural science, psychology, sociology, human geography, agricultural economics, agricultural extension, rural development, or related social/behavioural sciences
  • be highly self-motivated and prepared for extensive fieldwork, including farmer interviews, focus groups, and survey administration across multiple counties
  • possess strong analytical skills for both quantitative and qualitative research methods

Note:- Applicants must satisfy the specified English language requirements.

Benefits

Opportunity 1:-

  • A scholarship of EUR 25,000 annually
  • University fees of up to EUR 5,500 annually

Opportunity 2:-

  • A scholarship of EUR 25,000 annually
  • University fees of up to EUR 6,000 annually

Note:- The benefits are tenable for up to 4 years.
