About The Program

The National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) Tamil Nadu is conducted by the Directorate of Government Examinations, Tamil Nadu, as the Nodal Agency for the National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT). This is a prestigious two-stage scholarship examination designed to identify and nurture talented students. Selected candidates will receive ₹6,000 per annum from Class 11 to Class 12, and a scholarship as per UGC recommendations from degree level to PhD level for a maximum period of 4 years. Around 40 candidates from Tamil Nadu are selected every year.

EligibilityDeadline Date: Closed

To be eligible, an applicant must:

  • be studying in Class 10 during the current academic year
  • be enrolled in State Board Schools or Central Board Schools in Tamil Nadu
  • have obtained not less than 60% marks in Mathematics, Science & Social Science in the Class 9 annual examination
  • no parental income limit is fixed for applying to the examination

Note: Students from Government Schools, Central Schools, and Kendriya Vidyalayas are all eligible to apply.

Selection Criteria

Level I Examination:
Candidates will be selected based on their performance in the Level I examination conducted by the Directorate of Government Examinations, Tamil Nadu. Selection is based on merit and communal rotation, as per the Government of Tamil Nadu's norms.

Level II Examination:
Selected candidates from Level I will appear for the Level II examination conducted by NCERT at Chennai. After the written examination, an interview is conducted for the selected candidates.

  • Students must maintain satisfactory academic performance to continue receiving the scholarship.
  • Scholarship disbursement is subject to confirmation by school authorities.
  • The number of candidates selected is as per the quota prescribed by NCERT every year.
