Samsung Solve for Tomorrow India 2024 is an opportunity offered by Samsung India to students aged between 14 and 22 years. This year's program is a strategic partnership between Samsung India, the United Nations in India, IIT Delhi, the Foundation for Innovation & Technology Transfer (FITT), and the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology. It aims to equip students with stronger problem-solving and creative thinking skills.

The competition is divided into two tracks:

  • School Track (solving for India): It is open for 14-17 years old under the Theme "Community and Inclusion." It aims to empower underprivileged groups, improve accessibility to healthcare, and promote social inclusion for all.
  • Youth Track (solving for the world): It is open for 18-22 years old under the Theme "Environment and Sustainability." It aims to reduce carbon footprint, protect the environment, and promote sustainability.

Selected individuals will receive grants up to ₹25,00,000 along with additional benefits.

    Eligibility

    To be eligible, an applicant must:-

    • be an Indian national
    • be aged between 14-17 years as on 31st May 2024 (for school track)
    • be aged between 18-22 years as on 31st May 2024 (for youth track)

     

    Note:-

    • Individuals or teams of up to five people can apply for the challenge.
    • The team or individual must not have secured funding or awards exceeding ₹5,00,000 for the exact same proposal from any agency or competition.
    • Employees or agents of Samsung, its implementation agencies including the implementation partner, any of its group companies, or their immediate families, households, or anyone professionally affiliated with the competition are not eligible to participate.
    Benefits

    Selected team/individual will receive the benefits as follow:

    For School Track:

    • Grant of ₹20,000 for prototype development per team for the top 10 teams shortlisted in phase 2 of the program
    • Grant of ₹1,00,000 for prototype enhancement per team to be given to the top 5 teams shortlisted in phase 3 of the program
    • Grant of ₹25,00,000 for prototype advancement for the winning team selected in phase 4 of the program

     

    For Youth Track:

    • Grant of ₹20,000 for prototype development per team for the top 10 teams shortlisted in phase 2 of the program
    • Grant of ₹1,00,000 for prototype enhancement per team to be given to the top 5 teams shortlisted in phase 3 of the program
    • Grant of ₹50,00,000 awarded as a seed grant and incubation grant for the winning team selected in phase 4 of the program

     

    • Goodwill Award: The highest-scoring finalist according to audience polling will receive ₹1,00,000.
    • Social Media Champion Award: The highest-scoring finalist team according to social engagement will receive ₹50,000.

     

    Note:-

    • The 10 semi-finalist teams will receive hands-on training from a range of industry professionals, including Samsung, MeitY, IIT-Delhi, and technical assistance from the United Nations in India.
    • Participants will also get milestone-based grants for prototype development and improvement, a chance to attend a curated innovation walk with targeted interactions with Samsung officials, and private mentorship and coaching to help them turn their ideas into prototypes.
    • The 10 Semi-Finalist and 5 Finalist Teams will receive a selection of Samsung products.
    • The winning team's school/college will receive Samsung products to enhance their educational quality and development.

    How can you apply?

    Eligible applicants can apply using the following steps:-
    Step 1:
    Click on the 'Apply Now' button.
    Step 2: Click the 'Register' button and fill in the required registration details. (Note:- If already registered log in using Gmail/Mobile number/Email ID.)
    Step 3: Read the details carefully and navigate to the 'Apply Now' button at the top right-hand side of the dashboard. 
    Step 4: Select the age range, enter the email address along with the displayed CAPTCHA, and click 'Submit' to receive a one-time passcode (OTP).
    Step 6: Enter the OTP received on email and the given captcha, then click ‘Login’.
    Step 5: Fill in the required information, upload the necessary documents and click the ‘Confirm’ button.

Selection Criteria

Applicants' submissions will undergo a rigorous multi-stage review process to identify the most promising solutions.

Applications will be screened by subject matter experts from the Foundation of Innovation & Technology Transfer (FITT) - IIT Delhi based on their relevance to a social problem, technical feasibility, market potential, and team competence. The ideas will be evaluated using the following criteria:

  • Significance of the problem statement and its impact on society
  • • Proposed solution's novelty and viability
  • • Qualifications of the group or individual
  • • Plan for commercialisation

Applicants' submissions will be reviewed by a jury comprising industry veterans from Samsung during the second and third rounds.

  • Parents or legal guardians may register applicants between 14 and 17 years old on their behalf.
  • Applications with incomplete information or missing documents will be rejected. 
  • Applicants can participate once, either independently or as a member of a single team.
  • Each applicant/team can submit a single idea only.
  • Applicants must submit original work, free from plagiarism of text, ideas, images, audio, or video recordings from third parties.
  • Shortlisted participants must attend all workshops, mentoring sessions, regional pitch events, and the Final Pitch Event as instructed by the Implementation Partner. Failure to attend any of these activities may result in disqualification at Samsung's discretion.
  • All applicants must act in good faith, comply with all requests from Samsung or its implementation partner, and avoid any actions that could damage Samsung's reputation or endanger the health, safety, or well-being of other applicants or employees. Failure to comply with these conditions may result in Samsung rejecting the application.
  • Samsung's decisions regarding the competition and all related matters will be final and binding on applicants and participants. Any disputes arising from the competition will be governed by the laws of India. These terms and conditions shall be construed and interpreted in accordance with the exclusive laws of India, and the courts located at New Delhi shall have exclusive jurisdiction over all subject matters related to the competition.
  • The applicant/participant acknowledges and agrees that Samsung and its authorised partners may collect, use, disclose, transfer, and store their personally identifiable data/information in accordance with Samsung's privacy policy. The applicant/participant are advised to read the privacy policy carefully.
