About The Program

Pre-Matric Scholarship Scheme for SC Students of Class 9 and 10, Chandigarh 2024-25 is an initiative of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India. It provides financial assistance to SC students in Classes 9 and 10. The scholarship aims to support education and reduce dropout rates during the transition from elementary to secondary school. Selected students will receive a scholarship of up to ₹525 per month for 10 months and other benefits.

To be eligible, an applicant must:-

  • be a domicile of Chandigarh
  • belong to the Scheduled Caste (SC) category
  • be studying in Class 9 or 10 in a government school or a school recognized by the Government or a Central/State Board of Secondary Education
  • have an annual parental/guardian income of not more than ₹2,50,000 from all sources

Note:- Students should not be receiving benefits under any other educational scholarship for Class 9 and 10.

Benefits

The selected students will receive the following benefits:-

Additional Allowances for SC Students with Disabilities Studying in Private Unaided Schools:-

Under the Centrally-sponsored Scheme of ‘Inclusive Education for the Disabled at Secondary Stage’ (IEDSS) implemented by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), financial assistance is already being provided under its ‘Student-Oriented Component’ to students with disabilities studying at the secondary stage in government, local body, and government-aided schools. However, students in unaided schools are not covered under IEDSS.   

Therefore, SC students with disabilities studying in Class 9 and 10 in private unaided recognised schools will be eligible for allowances under this scheme, as follows:

Monthly reader allowance for blind students  160
Monthly transport allowance for students with disabilities (if not residing in the hostel within the premises of the educational institution)   160
Monthly escort allowance for severely disabled (i.e. with 80% or higher disability) day scholars/students with low extremity disability  160
Monthly helper allowance admissible to any hostel employee assisting severely orthopedically handicapped students 160
Monthly coaching allowance for mentally retarded and mentally ill students 240 

Note:- Disability is defined as per Schedule I read with clause (zc) of Section 2 of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016. The appropriate Government shall designate qualified and experienced individuals as certifying authorities to issue disability certificates.

  • Academic certificates, diplomas, or degrees
  • Caste certificate duly signed by an authorized Revenue Officer (RO), not below the rank of Tehsildar
  • Family income certificate (Note: If self-employed, an income declaration in the form of a certificate issued by a Revenue Officer (RO), not below the rank of Tehsildar)
  • A receipt acknowledging the previous year's scholarship (for renewal, if applicable)
How can you apply?

Eligible applicants can apply for the scholarship through the following steps:-
Step 1: Click on the 'Apply Now' button below. 
Step 2: Click on the 'Register' button and fill in the required registration details. (Note:- If already registered, log in using Gmail/Mobile number/Email ID).
Step 3: Navigate to the 'Students' option on the left-hand side of the dashboard and click on it.
Step 4: Now, click on the 'Login' button under the OTR option as it is required to apply for a scholarship on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP).
Step 5: Click on the 'New user? Register yourself' on the left-hand side of the dashboard and click on it.
Step 6: Read the details carefully, tick the checkbox, and click on the 'Next' button.
Step 7: Enter a functional mobile number, captcha code, and OTP, then submit to complete the registration process.
Step 8: Fill in the required details and click on 'Save & Register' to complete the 'One-time registration (OTR)' process. (Note:- This is a temporary registration number, students need to download the OTR mobile application for face authentication to complete the OTR process.)
Step 9: After successful registration, navigate to the 'Apply for Scholarship' option and click on the 'Login' button.
Step 10: Select the scholarship, fill in the required details, upload the necessary documents and submit.

Note:- All the applicants are advised to fill in the information correctly on the application form.  Once the application is submitted, no changes can be made. Additionally, submitting multiple applications will result in disqualification.

  • The State Government/Union Territory Administration to which the beneficiary students belong must mandatorily pay the scholarship money directly into the students' bank accounts, adhering to their prescribed procedures.
  • Scholarships to students should be released in the following order of priority:
    • Students studying in Central/State/UT Government Educational Institutions
    • Students studying in Government-aided Schools
    • Students studying in Private schools affiliated with the Centre or State
    • Students studying in other institutions
  • The scholarship is contingent upon the student's satisfactory progress and conduct. If the Head of the Institution/School reports that a student has, due to their own actions, failed to maintain satisfactory progress or has engaged in misconduct such as participating in strikes or exhibiting irregular attendance without proper authorization, the scholarship-granting authority may either cancel the scholarship or suspend/withhold further payments at its discretion.
  • If a student is found to have obtained a scholarship through false statements, the scholarship will be immediately canceled, and the amount already paid will be recovered by the concerned State Government/UT Administration. Additional penalties, including blacklisting or debarment from future scholarships, may be imposed.
  • A student may be required to refund the scholarship amount if they discontinue the studies for which the scholarship was awarded during the academic year. This decision rests with the State Government/UT Administration.

Scholarship renewal and continuation guidelines:

  • The scholarship will be payable for 10 months in an academic year.
  • The award, once granted, will continue subject to good conduct and regular attendance. It will be renewed for Class 10 upon successful completion of Class 9.
