About The Program

Umbrella Scheme Post-Matric Scholarships for ST Students, Tripura 2024-25 is an opportunity provided by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India to students studying in classes 11 and above in recognised institutions in Tripura. The scholarship aims to financially support the study of needy students belonging to the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category. The selected students will receive a monthly maintenance allowance of up to ₹1,200 and other benefits.

To be eligible, an applicant must:-

  • be a citizen of India
  • be a domicile of Tripura
  • belong to the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category
  • have passed the Class 10/12 or higher secondary examination from a recognised university or board
  • have an annual family income of less than ₹2,50,000
  • hold a valid account in a scheduled bank linked to Aadhaar and a mobile number
  • not be receiving any other scholarship

Note:- 

  • The scholarships will be given for the study of post-matriculation/post-secondary courses, recognised by the concerned approving authority, pursued in the following category of institutions/universities/colleges:
    • All government institutes/colleges/universities
    • Institutions of National Importance
    • Central university/state university/autonomous colleges recognised by the UGC and universities/colleges recognised under section 2(f) and/or 12(b) of the UGC Act
    • Deemed universities
    • Private universities recognised by state/centre with ‘A’ level or equivalent accreditation by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) or National Board of Accreditation (NBA)
    • Private professional institutions affiliated with a recognised central/state university
    • Schools/colleges recognised by government/government-aided for Classes 11 and 12
    • Diploma-granting institutions as recognised by state/UT governments
    • Vocational training institute affiliated to the National Council of Vocational Training (NCVT)
    • Institutions affiliated/approved by the appropriate bodies like MCI/AICTE or any regulatory body established by the state/centre as approving authority for a particular course.
Benefits

The selected students will receive the awards in the following manner:-

Group Courses Hostellers (In ₹ for 10 months) Day Scholars (In ₹ for 10 months)
Group 1 Graduate and Postgraduate courses leading to Degree, PG Diploma, M.Phil, Ph.D. in professional courses in various streams 1,200 550

Additional Allowances for SC students with disabilities:-

  • For Day Scholars: ₹600 per month
  • For Hostelers: ₹800 per month

Note:- The disability as defined under the said Act has to be certified by a competent medical authority of the state administration. The provisions of disability allowance will also apply to leprosy-cured and students having sickle cell Anemia or Thalassemia.

Documents
  • A passport-size photograph of the student
  • Domicile certificate
  • Academic transcripts of previous qualifying examinations including certificates, diplomas, degrees, etc.
  • ST certificate duly signed by an authorised Revenue Officer (RO), not below the rank of Tehsildar
  • An income certificate parent(s)/guardian(s) issued by the authority as decided by the state government
  • A receipt in acknowledgement of the scholarship in the previous year (if applicable)
  • Disability certificate (if applicable)
How can you apply?

Eligible applicants can apply for the scholarship through the following steps:-
Step 1: Click on the 'Apply Now' button below. 
Step 2: Click on the 'Register' button and fill in the required registration details. (Note:- If already registered, log in using Gmail/Mobile number/Email ID).
Step 3: Navigate to the 'Students' option on the left-hand side of the dashboard and click on it.
Step 4: Now, click on the 'Login' button under the OTR option as it is required to apply for a scholarship on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP).
Step 5: Click on the 'New user? Register yourself' on the left-hand side of the dashboard and click on it.
Step 6: Read the details carefully, tick the checkbox, and click on the 'Next' button.
Step 7: Enter a functional mobile number, captcha code, and OTP, then submit to complete the registration process.
Step 8: Fill in the required details and click on 'Save & Register' to complete the 'One-time registration (OTR)' process. (Note:- This is a temporary registration number, students need to download the OTR mobile application for face authentication to complete the OTR process.)
Step 9: After successful registration, navigate to the 'Apply for Scholarship' option and click on the 'Login' button.
Step 10: Select the scholarship, fill in the required details, upload the necessary documents and submit.

Note:- All the applicants are advised to fill in the information correctly on the application form.  Once the application is submitted, no changes can be made. Additionally, submitting multiple applications will result in disqualification.

  • The candidates after passing one stage of education are studying in the same stage of education in the different subjects are not eligible to apply.
  • Candidates cannot receive other scholarships while under the tenure of this scholarship.
  • The students who wish to change their professional line are not eligible to apply for the scholarship.
  • The students who take leave without pay and study as full-time students will be eligible for the programme.
  • Applicants must have an active bank account linked with their Aadhaar and a valid mobile number to receive the benefits.
  • The scholarship amount will not be to the students for internship and housemanship in MBBS courses or practical training if during that period the student receives funding from other sources.
  • Candidates belonging to one state but studying in other states will be awarded scholarships by the state to which they belong.
  • Irregular attendance and misbehaviour will lead to the cancellation of the scholarship.
  • In case a student couldn't apply for a scholarship for an eligible course in the 1st year of the course, he can apply for a scholarship in 2nd or subsequent year and would be entitled to a scholarship for the remaining duration of the course from the date of application.
  • Candidates are liable to refund the award amount if they discontinue the scholarship.

Family Income:-

  • When both parents work, the total family income is calculated based on their combined income from all sources.
  • If any other family member, other than the father and mother, earns money, his or her earnings will be excluded from the total family income.
  • If only one parent is alive, that parent's income will be considered when calculating total family income. If another sibling or family member earns money, their earnings are not counted towards the overall family income.
  • Income criteria do not apply to orphans who are supported by a guardian.
  • The income certificate is verified only once at the time of admission.

Renewal of the Scholarship:-

  • The scholarship granted under the scheme will be renewed every year provided the candidate successfully passes the previous year.
  • If a student fails to appear for the annual exam due to illness, their scholarship can still be renewed. They are just required to provide a medical certificate from the approved authority, and the institution/awarding body needs to accept it.
  • Even if a student gets promoted but doesn't pass the previous year's exams, they can still receive the scholarship for their new class, as long as they meet the other scholarship requirements and their university/institute allows this exception.
  • If a student fails and repeats a class, their scholarship will continue for one additional year or the duration of the repeated class, whichever is less.

Question: Are all students eligible to receive ₹1,200 monthly under this scholarship?
Answer: Only hostelers who are pursuing graduate and postgraduate courses leading to a degree, PG diploma, M.Phil, Ph.D. in professional courses are eligible to receive a monthly allowance of ₹1,200 under this scholarship.

Question: Will disabled students get any extra allowance?
Answer: Disabled students who hold a valid certificate from a competent medical authority of the state administration are eligible to receive extra allowances.

Question: Is the Scheduled Tribe certificate necessary for this scholarship?
Answer: To be eligible for this scholarship, students must have a valid caste certificate displaying their ST category, and it should be duly signed by an authorised Revenue Officer (RO), not below the rank of Tehsildar.

Question: If the student belongs to Tripura but is currently studying in another state, can they still receive this scholarship?
Answer: Students of Tripura who are currently studying outside the state are eligible to receive a scholarship from the Tripura state government.

Question: Can students apply for the scholarship at any point in their studies?
Answer: If a student is unable to apply for the scholarship in their 1st year of studies, they can apply in their 2nd year and will be eligible to receive the scholarship awards for the remaining duration of their academic studies.
