About The Program

The NIMS Internship Program 2025–26 is offered by the National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS), Japan. This program provides talented undergraduate and graduate students with an opportunity to gain hands-on research experience under the guidance of leading scientists in advanced materials science. Selected candidates will receive a daily allowance of ¥2,560 per day(Approx ₹4283.12) and accommodation support during their stay in Japan.

To be eligible, an applicant must:

  • Be an undergraduate or graduate student in science, engineering, or related fields
  • Be currently enrolled at a recognized university outside Japan
  • Have identified a host researcher at NIMS through the official directory (SAMURAI database)
    (Note: Please note that you must remain a student for the duration of the training period.)

(Note: A diploma or a Master’s degree certificate is not considered valid.)

Eligible applicants can apply by following these steps:

Step 3: Scroll down and click on ‘NIMS SAMURAI Researchers Directory’ and identify a host researcher.
Step 4: Contact your chosen researcher directly via email with your application documents.
Step 5: If your host researcher approves, they will forward your application to the NIMS Academic Collaboration Office.

Selection Criteria

Candidates will be selected based on:

  • Academic performance and research potential
  • Relevance of the applicant’s field of study to NIMS research areas
  • Endorsement and acceptance by a NIMS host researcher
     
Terms and Conditions
  • If you are currently receiving financial support through a Japanese Government-funded scholarship, you are not eligible for the daily allowance from NIMS.
  • It takes approximately one month to review applications. The host researcher will notify you of the review results.
