About The Program

The NHRC Short Film Competition 2025 is conducted by the National Human Rights Commission, India, to promote awareness and respect for human rights through creative expression. This competition invites original short films that capture and reflect human rights themes. Open to filmmakers across India, this is an opportunity to contribute to national dialogue and win prestigious awards.

EligibilityDeadline Date: Closed

To be eligible, an applicant must:-

  • be an Indian citizen
  • submit an original short film (3–10 minutes) in any Indian language (with English subtitles) or English
  • ensure the film aligns with human rights themes
  • adhere to the technical format: MP4 Full HD (max 2 GB)

Note:-

  • Films submitted once for the NHRC's competition are not eligible for resubmission under this scheme.
  • The film(s) being sent for this competition should not be on social media platforms
Benefits

Winners will receive:-

  • 1st Prize: ₹2,00,000
  • 2nd Prize: ₹1,50,000
  • 3rd Prize: ₹1,00,000
  • Up to 4 Special Mentions: ₹50,000 each
  • Trophy and certificate of recognition
  • Invitation to an award ceremony in New Delhi (travel reimbursed as per norms)

How can you apply?

Eligible applicants can apply by following these steps:-
Step 1:
Click on the 'Apply Now' button below.
Step 2: Click on the 'Register' button and fill in the required registration details (Note:- If already registered, log in using Gmail/Mobile number/Email ID).
Step 3: Upload your film, filled application form, ID proof, synopsis, and film theme on Google Drive using a Gmail account
Step 4: Title the folder: “Short Film Award‑2025, (Applicant or Production House Name)
Step 5: Share the folder link via email to ‘nhrcshortfilm@gmail.com’.

 Note:-

  • No physical submissions are required.
  • The applicant should attach either Aadhar Card / Voter Identity Card / PAN Card / Driving License, or any other valid proof of identity issued by a Government authority.

Selection Criteria

Winners will be selected by a jury of experts based on creativity, relevance to human rights, technical quality, and impact. NHRC retains the right to upload selected films on its platforms for public engagement and education.
