About The Program

Nagaland State Merit Scholarship 2025-26 is an initiative of the Department of Higher Education, Nagaland, for students in Class 11 and above. It aims to improve literacy and education levels by providing financial assistance to selected students.

To be eligible, an applicant must:-

  • be a domicile of Nagaland or permanently settled in Nagaland
  • be pursuing studies at the post-matric level in a recognised institution
  • fulfil the below academic requirements:
Qualifying Percentage for Fresh Applications
Present Class/Year Qualifying Percentage of the Last Examination Passed  Marks for % calculation
Class 11/Diploma (1st year) Minimum 80% in Class 10 Marks of the best five subjects in Class 10
Bachelor’s degree 1st year Minimum 80% in Class 12 Marks of the best five subjects in Class 12
Engineering degree 2nd year (Lateral entry) Minimum 80% in Diploma Marks on all papers in all semesters of the diploma
PG 1st year Minimum 70% at the Graduation level Marks of all papers in all semesters of the Bachelor/Graduation course will be taken into account
Benefits

Selected candidates will receive financial assistance to continue their higher studies.

Documents

Applicants are required to submit the following documents:

  • Attested photocopy of mark sheets and admit cards for Class 10 and above
  • Attested photocopy of Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Indigenous certificate
  • Attested photocopy of admission receipt
  • Attested photocopy of school/college/university Registration/Affiliation certificate
  • Photocopy of the front page of the bank passbook
  • Photocopy of Aadhaar card

Documents required to be submitted for renewal:-

  • Self-attested copies of all mark sheets for the last examination(s) passed, merged into a single file.
  • Original Part B Form (only for applicants studying outside Nagaland)
  • Hosteller Certificate:
    • For applicants residing in a registered hostel outside Nagaland: Hosteller certificate or commendation certificate from the hostel warden.
    • For applicants staying in a recognised hostel within Nagaland: Hosteller Form issued by the Department.
  • A photocopy of the admission receipt
  • A photocopy of the front page of the bank passbook
  • A photocopy of the Aadhaar card
How can you apply?

Eligible candidates can apply following these steps:
Step 1: Click on the 'Apply Now' button.
Step 2: Click on the 'Register' button and fill in the required registration details. (Note: If already registered, log in using Gmail/Mobile number/Email ID)
Step 3: Navigate to the 'Register' button on the left-hand side of the dashboard.
Step 4: Fill in the required details to complete the registration process. (Note: If the applicant is already registered, kindly login using valid credentials)
Step 5: After successful registration, fill in the required details, upload the necessary documents (if required) and submit.
Step 6: Students studying outside Nagaland must take a printout of the application form and submit it along with copies of the documents to the Department of Higher Education, Government of Nagaland, at the address:

Selection Criteria

Selection of the candidates will be based on eligibility criteria.

Terms and Conditions
  • Students who failed in their last examination are not eligible.
  • Students who have already received this scholarship for a course at the same level cannot apply again, even if they change their course.
  • Applicants must not be receiving any other scholarship.
  • Applicants must not be employed by any government or semi-government establishment.
  • Students studying in NIOS can apply if they meet the eligibility criteria and have the following subject combination (for Class 11 and 12):
    • English
    • Alternate English or MIL (Mother Tongue)
    • Science
    • Mathematics
    • Social Science
  • The bank account must be in the applicant's name. Joint accounts for minors must have the applicant's name listed first.
  • Students studying within Nagaland should submit the printed online form and required documents to their institution for verification.
  • The Department is not responsible for non-receipt of the scholarship due to incorrect or inactive bank account information provided by the applicant.
  • Providing false statements, declarations, or documents will result in blacklisting and debarment from all scholarships for the entire period of studies. Any previously paid scholarship amount will be recovered.
  • Incomplete or wrong entries in the e-form or missing documents will lead to rejection.

Question: What is the Nagaland State Merit Scholarship?
Answer:
 The Nagaland State Merit Scholarship is awarded by the Department of Higher Education, Nagaland, to academically outstanding students from Nagaland pursuing studies in recognised institutions in India. It is meant to encourage and reward high academic achievers.

Question: Who is eligible for the Merit Scholarship?
Answer: 

To be eligible:

  • You must be a domicile of Nagaland.

No, typically you cannot receive multiple scholarships from the same source simultaneously. You must choose only one scheme depending on your current level of study and eligibility.
