About The Program

The Mitacs Globalink Research Internship is a competitive initiative offered by Mitacs that gives international undergraduate students access to Canada's research landscape. Open to students from Mitacs' partner countries and regions, the program facilitates 12-week research internships hosted by faculty members at Canadian academic institutions, spanning disciplines from science, engineering, and mathematics to the humanities and social sciences.

To be eligible, an applicant must:

  • be at least 18 years of age at the time of application
  • be enrolled in a full-time undergraduate or combined undergraduate/master's program at an eligible institution
  • be pursuing B.E and B.Tech courses
  • have secured a minimum cumulative grade point average of 70%
  • apply to a minimum of three projects, with selections from at least three different Canadian provinces (see note on maximum below)
  • be fluent in the oral and written language of the project (English and/or French)
  • not have previously been awarded a Globalink Research Internship project

The Globalink Research Internship award includes:

Documents
  • At least one reference letter (English or French) from a supervising professor, on institutional letterhead
  • Official academic transcripts in English and/or French (or original-language transcripts plus a translated and notarized version, matching the language of the projects applied to)
  • A résumé/CV (own format or the provided template)
  • Valid passport information (if application is approved)
  • Language-proficiency test scores, where required by the applicant's country/partner

Eligible candidates can apply by following these steps: 
Step 1:

Step 3: Scroll down and navigate to the ‘How to Apply’ section. 
Step 4: Click the ‘clicking here’ link.
Step 5: Under the header of GRI Students, Click ‘2027 Student Application Platform’ 
Step 6: Click ‘Register’, fill in all the mentioned information, and click the ‘Submit’ button. 
Step 7: Login with your credentials and proceed with the application. 

Important Dates

Application Deadline: September 16, 2026, (till 1:00 PM, Pacific time) 
Internship period: May to October 2027 (12 consecutive weeks; must start between May 1 and July 31, 2027) 

Selection Criteria

Applications are assessed based on eligibility criteria, the applicant's Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA), the quality of their statement of interest, the quality of their reference letter, and how well their research interests and experience match the research focus of the project or professor. Incomplete applications are not assessed. Applicants who are matched will be notified by email between mid-December and mid-February.

  • Mitacs does not claim ownership of intellectual property developed through funded research projects; participating institutions are encouraged to reach a mutual understanding on IP implications.
  • Interns are expected to work 40 hours/week for 12 consecutive weeks and remain in Canada for the full duration.
  • Candidates must be available to complete a 12-consecutive-week internship between May 1 and October 31, 2027, starting between May 1 and July 31, 2027
  • Interns must agree to a Code of Conduct and liability waiver; failure to comply may result in denial of the certificate of completion and/or expulsion from the program.
  • Cancellation requests must be made through Mitacs and are reviewed case-by-case; Mitacs may require all or a pro-rated portion of funds to be returned.
  • Applicants affiliated with, or funded/supported by, institutions on Canada's Named Research Organizations (NRO) list are not eligible for Mitacs-funded projects advancing a Sensitive Technology Research Area (STRA); Mitacs may screen applications and decline funding at its discretion.
  • Applicants must not be currently affiliated with, or in receipt of funding/in-kind support from, an institution on the Government of Canada's list of Named Research Organizations (NROs), if the project advances a Sensitive Technology Research Area (STRA).
