About The Program

The Lee Kong Chian Research Fellowship 2026 is an opportunity provided by the National Library Board (NLB) of Singapore to curators, historians, academics or independent researchers. The selected students will receive a monthly stipend and other benefits.

To be eligible, an applicant must:-

  • be curators, historians, academics or independent researchers with established records of achievement in their chosen fields of research
  • be scholars pursuing doctoral, postdoctoral or advanced research 
  • have scholarly and research credentials or their equivalent
Benefits

The selected candidates will receive:

  • A monthly stipend for 6 months
  • One-time relocation allowance 
  • Monthly accommodation allowance 
  • Reimbursement of a return economy class air ticket

Eligible candidates can apply for the scholarship through the following steps:-
Step 1:

Terms and Conditions

Candidates selected for this fellowship must:

  • Reside in Singapore and dedicate at least 75% of work time to the Library during the Fellowship.
  • Deliver one public presentation to staff and one to the public on fellowship research.
  • Produce a resource guide: an annotated bibliography highlighting key sources, their importance, and essential readings (e.g., theoretical approaches, seminal titles) for the research topic.
  • Submit a 3,000-word paper and a 6,000-word paper on research findings within three months post-Fellowship, including 6–8 images, minimal footnotes, and references.
  • Grant the National Library Board first right to publish research results (with possible editorial changes and repackaging).
  • Provide a written analysis of the Fellowship experience within one month post-Fellowship.
  • Advise on collection gaps to strengthen the Library's research competency.
  • Present the Library with copies of any publications from Fellowship research, acknowledging National Library of Singapore support.
