About The Program

The Kyoto University Amgen Scholars Program 2026 is an opportunity offered by the Amgen Foundation and Harvard University to students pursuing undergraduate courses in Asia. This scholarship aims to support them financially while they study as vacation scholars at Kyoto University. The selected candidates shall receive a scholarship of 180,000 yen (₹1,04,066 approx.) and other benefits.

EligibilityDeadline Date: Closed

To be eligible, an applicant must:-

  • Be enrolled as an undergraduate student (or equivalent) at a university located in an eligible country or area within Asia.​
  • Plan to return to their home institution and continue undergraduate studies for at least one semester following completion of the program.​
  • Have completed a minimum of one year of undergraduate study by June 7, 2026.​
  • Be pursuing an undergraduate degree in any discipline, provided mathematics is one of the subjects studied.​
  • Be available to participate full-time from June 7 to August 6, 2026, without any conflicting engagements during this period.​
  • Demonstrate proficiency in English by meeting one of the following criteria:
  • All undergraduate courses have been conducted in English, or, attainment of acceptable scores in a recognized English proficiency test:
    • TOEFL iBT: 72 or above
    • IELTS: Overall band score of 5.5 or above
    • Cambridge English FCE
    • TOEIC: 1095 or above
    • TOEIC L&R: 785 or above
    • TOEIC S&W: 310 or above
Benefits

The selected candidates shall receive:

  • a scholarship of 180,000 yen (₹1,04,066 approx.) disbursed in two installments of 90,000 yen each, one at the program's start and the other in mid-July
  • economy class airline ticket arranged by Kyoto University, covering flights between the nearest airport of the student’s university and Osaka (round trip)
  • accommodation in Kyoto

Eligible candidates can apply by following these steps:-
Step 1:

Step 3: Scroll down to the ‘Applications’ section. There under the sub head of ‘Online Application’ click on the ‘Apply to the program’ link. 
Step 4: Click on the blue colour ‘Sign Up’ button. Fill in all the mentioned information and click on ‘Create an Account’ to proceed with the application.

Selection Criteria

The scholars are selected based on their eligibility and academic merit.

Terms and Conditions
  • Students are responsible for arranging their own private health insurance and must enroll in Kyoto University’s “Co-op Liability Insurance” upon arrival, as neither the Amgen Foundation nor Kyoto University provides health insurance.
  • Their attendance is mandatory at the Amgen Scholars Asia Symposium, held either in Tokyo or Kyoto during the program period.
