About The Program
Inlaks Research and Travel Grant 2026 is an opportunity provided by the Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation for Ph.D. students in Humanities and Social Sciences at Indian universities. It funds short-term visits abroad for research purposes, including collecting materials, utilising facilities, and consulting with experts. Selected candidates will receive a travel grant up to USD 4,000 (approx. ₹3,84,899) with additional benefits to help them cover their research work.

To be eligible, an applicant must:-
- be an Indian citizen with a valid passport
- be currently residing in India
- be born on or after 1st January 1991
- possess a first-class degree in both a bachelor's (honours) and a master's degree from a recognised institution/university
- be a registered Ph.D. candidate at a recognised Indian university pursuing a Ph.D. in Humanities or Social Sciences only
- have obtained confirmation of their PhD synopsis from the institution or university where they are pursuing their PhD.
Note:- Applicants must be registered Ph.D. students at an accredited Indian university for a minimum of two and a maximum of three years at the time of application.
Benefits
The award provides financial support for up to 3 months to cover research activities, including:-
- Travel allowance: Reimbursable for reasonable expenses, up to USD 1,000 (approx. ₹96,251.45)
- Maintenance expenses: Up to USD 2,000 (approx. ₹1,92,502.90) per month
- Research materials: Reimbursable for actual costs of purchasing materials and copying relevant literature, up to USD 500 (approx. ₹48,123.58)
- Health allowance: Reimbursable for actual health expenses, up to USD 500 (approx. ₹48,123.58)

Terms and Conditions
- The awarded grant must be used within nine months of the award date.
- Students are required to submit proof of major expenditures, such as library fees, lodging, and book purchases.
- All materials (including literature, copies, and instruments) collected during the research visit will become the property of the institution for the benefit of future scholars. These materials should acknowledge the support received from the Inlaks Research and Travel Grant.
- Applicants can apply for either the Inlaks Research and Travel Grant or the Inlaks-Kings India Institute Studentship in a single year, but not both.
- The applicant must submit a written report in the prescribed format to the Inlaks Foundation within one month of their return.
