About The Program

The Inlaks King's India Institute Studentship 2026 offers financial support to Indian doctoral candidates pursuing research in Humanities and Social Sciences. The studentship funds a short-term research visit of up to 3 months at the King’s India Institute, King’s College London, enabling scholars to access resources, meet experts, and advance their research. Selected students will receive rewards of USD 2,350 along with other benefits.

EligibilityDeadline Date: 31-Aug-2026

To be eligible, an applicant must:-

  • be an Indian passport holder 
  • be born on or after 1st January 1991
  • be holding a confirmed PhD registration in an Indian university for at least two years but not more than three years.
  • have first-class Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees.
  • have conducted research related to the humanities or social sciences.
  • have positive communication from experts at King’s India Institute that they wish to engage with

Note:- An applicant is eligible to apply for either the Inlaks-King’s India Institute Studentship or the Inlaks Research and Travel Grant in the same year, but not for both simultaneously.

Benefits

Selected candidates will receive various benefits:-

  • Reimbursement of travel expenses as per the Foundation's guidelines
  • Maintenance allowance for the duration of the research visit
  • Up to USD 500 (approx.₹48,166.60) for research materials and photocopying of relevant literature (reimbursable)
  • Up to USD 500 (approx.₹48,166.60)as a reimbursable health allowance
  • An additional GBP 1,000 ( approx.₹1,30,154.30) from King's upon arrival to support the entire research stay

Eligible applicants can apply by following these steps:-

Selection Criteria

Candidates will go through a two-tier selection process:

  • Desk review for shortlisting applications.
  • Online personal interview of shortlisted candidates.

Note: Interview notifications will be sent by late September 2026, and the final interviews will be held in mid-October 2026.

  • The visit must be completed by June 2026.
  • Collected material during the visit must be made available to the applicant’s institution for future research use and must acknowledge support from the Inlaks-King’s India Institute Studentship.
