Inlaks Fellowship for Social Engagement 2023 is an opportunity offered by the Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation to graduate students and early to mid-career professionals. The fellowship aims to provide an opportunity for the fellows to explore alternatives and make independent choices about their lives while contributing to social change. It also aims to increase participation in public life among young people while encouraging them to challenge the status quo. The selected students will receive up to ₹45,000 per month.

    Eligibility

    To be eligible, the applicants must:-

    • be an Indian citizen
    • be currently residing in India

     

    For Graduate Applicants:

    • be born on or after 1st January 1994
    • hold a bachelor’s degree

     

    For Early to Mid-career Professionals:

    • be born on or after 1st January 1989
    • have at least 3 years of relevant work experience 

     

    Note:- The candidates who are enrolled in academic studies/Ph.D. degree for the duration of the fellowship are ineligible to apply.

    Benefits

    Up to 12 fellows will receive a monthly stipend in the following manner depending on the geographical location:

    • ₹45,000 per month if the fellow is living and working in an “X” category area.
    • ₹35,000 per month if the fellow is living and working in a “Y” category area.
    • ₹25,000 per month if the fellow is living and working in a “Z” category area.

     

    Note:- 

    • In exceptional cases, additional funding up to a maximum of ₹20,000 can be granted for special projects undertaken by a fellow. This will be approved on a case-by-case basis upon submission of a proposal describing the particulars of the said initiative and the expenses involved.
    • For detailed information related to states specified under X, Y, and Z categories, refer to the 'State List and HRA' below.

    • Work plan including a title of the proposed work along with a concise description of the work or research the applicant plans to undertake during the fellowship period and expected outcomes of the work or research (Word Limit: Not more than 1,000 words)
    • Statement of Purpose addressing the following questions:
      • How does the work plan contribute to social change?
      • How does the applicant plan to contribute to the public discourse on the chosen issue? (Note:- The applicant could employ any medium such as writing for publications, publishing reports, filmmaking, photography, blogging, archiving, theatre, etc.) (Word Limit: Not more than 1,000 words)
    • Letter of Endorsement from the Mentor (on their official letterhead), which must include:
      • A brief description of the mentor’s work experience
      • A statement by the mentor as to why they endorse the applicant’s work plan
      • Mentor's contact details (email and official address)
      • The mentor must also state that they agree to supervise the applicant’s work during the fellowship period, as well as indicate their willingness to review and comment upon the applicant’s quarterly and annual progress reports.
    • Letter of Recommendation (Note:- For fresh graduates, an academic letter of recommendation is acceptable)
    How can you apply?

    Eligible candidates can apply for the fellowship through the following steps:-
    Step 1: Click on the 'Apply Now' button below.

    Step 3: Read the guidelines carefully. Navigate to the 'Application form is available here' right above the application timeline and click on it to access the application form.
    Step 4: Fill in the required details, upload the documents in PDF form, and submit.
    Step 5: Tick the checkbox to acknowledge the declaration & privacy policy and click on 'Submit'.

Selection Criteria

The candidates will be selected based on the fulfilment of eligibility criteria and documents provided.

Note:- Equal consideration will be given to candidates from urban and rural areas.

Terms and Conditions
  • The fellowship will last for 2 years subject to the satisfactory completion of a probation period and quarterly and annual review of the fellows’ work.
  • The probation period will be for the first 6 months of the fellowship duration.
  • The stipend will be disbursed half-yearly in advance.
  • The stipend is subject to timely receipt of quarterly reports in which fellows self-assess their progress. These reports will be reviewed and commented on by their mentor before submission.
  • A commitment to a 2-year fellowship term subject to the terms and conditions outlined in the contract with Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation.
  • Fellows are expected to carry out their work in good faith and to the best of their abilities comporting with the highest standards of ethics, inclusion and fairness.
  • Fellows are expected to abide by the working policies of their host organisation.
  • Fellows are required to submit progress reports to the foundation for quarterly review. This will be reviewed and commented on by their mentor.
