Indian Institute of Metals Program for Research Internship in Materials Engineering 2026

To be eligible, an applicant must:-

• be a 2nd or 3rd year full-time undergraduate student at the time of application
• be enrolled in metallurgy, materials science/engineering, production engineering, or manufacturing engineering
• have a minimum CGPA of 8.0 by the end of the 3rd semester (for 2nd year students) and 5th semester (for 3rd year students)
• identify a faculty mentor at one of the IITs or IISc for the summer internship
• obtain a consent/confirmation letter from the faculty mentor on their letterhead or by email, clearly stating the project title and duration
• be able to work full-time (minimum one month) at the host institution 
• declare that they will not be receiving any other external fellowship during the internship period
• be enrolled as a Student Member of IIM (free of cost)

Note:-

• Fellowship will be paid only after the completion of the internship and on successful submission of the internship report. 
• Applicants are responsible for arranging their own boarding and lodging during the internship period.

The selected students will receive a fellowship as follows:

• ₹7,500 for one month of internship
• ₹10,000 for one half-month of internship
• ₹15,000 for two months of internship
