About The Program
The India Science and Research Fellowship (ISRF) 2025-26 is offered by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India. To be eligible, an applicant must:
- be a citizen or permanent resident of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, the Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, or Thailand
- be actively engaged in research at a university or research institution in their country in various areas of science and technology, including engineering and medical sciences
- hold minimum qualifications of a PhD/M.Tech/M.Sc/MBBS with 3-5 years research or teaching experience (Applicants registered for a PhD degree in their home country may also apply)
- be below 45 years of age as on 31 March 2026
- have a valid passport
- does not hold any visa for temporary or permanent residency in India
- not have availed the fellowship within the last 5 years
Benefits
The selected fellows will receive:
- Fellowship Allowance: ₹50,000 per month (includes accommodation and medical facilities as available to host institutes)
- Contingency Grant to Fellow: ₹10,000 as a one-time contingency grant
- Contingency Research Grant for Host Scientist: ₹20,000 as a one-time grant (through institution)
- Airfare: Round-trip airfare by economy class from the place of employment in their own country to the Indian host institute, through the shortest route. Local transport by road/rail between the nearest airport and the host institute in India
- Visa Fee: Will be reimbursed

Fellows are expected to:
- Stay in India continuously during the accepted tenure and devote maximum working time to research work at the host institution
- Not engage in any other work, either paid or unpaid, during the tenure of the fellowship
- Follow the rules established by the host institution and DST, including prohibiting acts of research misconduct
- Submit a detailed research report after completion of tenure, duly endorsed by the host researcher to DST and INSA
- Have their own medical insurance for the period of stay in India
