About The Program

H.H Dalai Lama-Sasakawa Scholarship 2025-26 is an opportunity offered by the Sasakawa India Leprosy Foundation (SILF) to provide financial support to students residing in self-settled leprosy colonies in Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The selected students who are willing to pursue professional courses in recognised institutions will receive rewards in the form of tuition fees, admission fees, mess fees and boarding/ hostel expenses.

To be eligible, an applicant must:-

  • not be less than 17 years of age at the time of application
  • be a domicile of one of the following states:
    • Andhra Pradesh
    • Bihar
    • Chhattisgarh
    • Delhi
    • Jharkhand
    • Madhya Pradesh
    • Odisha
    • Uttar Pradesh
    • West Bengal
    • Telangana
  • have at least one parent who has leprosy
  • be residing in a self-settled leprosy colony
  • be enrolled in a professional course at a government-recognised institution
  • have completed senior secondary education or a bachelor's degree in the year 2024-25

Note:-

  • Students enrolled in non-professional courses are not eligible.
  • Applicants who are already receiving scholarships from other organisations/individuals are not eligible to apply.
Benefits

The selected candidates will receive tuition fees, admission fees, mess fees and boarding/hostel expenses from the institutes directly.

Documents
  • Passport-size photographs of the applicant
  • Self-attested copies of the following documents:
    • Birth certificate or proof of date of birth
    • Pass Certificate for matriculation (Class 10), senior secondary (Class 12) and Graduation (If applying for a master’s course)
    • Class 10, 12 board exam and graduation marksheets (If applying for a master's course)
    • Leprosy certificate of parent(s) (treatment certificate from the place where treated, or certificate fromthe  District Leprosy Officer, or disability certificate mentioning Hansen’s disease/leprosy)
    • A provisional admission letter issued by the institute to which the applicant has secured admission, or else the applicant should indicate the names of 3 colleges in which they are seeking admission
    • A reference letter from the colony leader certifying that the candidate is a resident of the colony and is the only candidate from their family
  • Proof of admission in a government-recognised institution/college (Note:- In case the student has already gained admission)

Step 4: Now, click on 'If you donot have a login account click here to register' and fill in the details to 'Register'. 
Step 5: Fill in the required details, attach the relevant documents, and submit.

Selection Criteria

All eligible candidates will be ranked according to the established merit criteria from the last examination. The selection committee will then award scholarships to the top twenty candidates.

Terms and Conditions
  • No capitation fees will be paid for admission.
  • First-time applicants are only eligible for scholarships for professional courses leading to employment.
  • Candidates cannot apply for more than one scholarship of the same type. Duplicate applications will be rejected.
  • Applications must be submitted on the prescribed forms and be complete to be considered.
  • Applications require verification by State leaders. Unverified applications will be considered incomplete.
  • Only one individual per family can receive the scholarship. Students who do not meet the above requirements will not be considered.
