- Candidates who have obtained their Ph.D. from DIAT are not eligible for a Post-Doctoral Fellowship (PDF) at DIAT under this scheme.
- Selected candidates must join within two months of the award's effective date.
- The Post-Doctoral Fellowship requires full-time research work of a standard significantly higher than Ph.D.-level work.
- Post-Doctoral Fellows will undergo annual progress evaluations.
- All publications, patents, or reports resulting from research at DIAT must acknowledge DIAT's support.
- Post-Doctoral Fellows must assist the department, including supporting Ph.D. and postgraduate students, and providing laboratory and conference assistance.

About The Program
The DRDO DIAT Post-doctoral Fellowship 2026 is an opportunity provided by the Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT) to students holding a PhD degree. The selected students will receive A fellowship of up to ₹55,000 per month and other benefits.
EligibilityDeadline Date: Closed
To be eligible, an applicant must:-
- hold a Ph.D. degree awarded within the last three years, or have submitted a Ph.D. thesis (applicants about to submit are eligible, but selection is subject to thesis submission before the award offer's validity expires)
- have research publications in high-impact-factor SCI journals
- be an Indian national, Person of Indian Origin (PIO), or Overseas Citizen of India (OCI); foreign nationals may be considered for up to 20% of fellowships
- not exceed 35 years of age as of the application deadline (relaxable by up to 5 years for SC/ST/Physically disabled/women candidates and 3 years for OBC Non-Creamy Layer candidates)
Benefits
The selected candidates will receive:
A monthly fellowship of Rs. 55,000 + HRA (or Rs. 35,000 + HRA for those who have submitted their thesis but not yet received the degree), tenable initially for 2 years as a purely temporary assignment
An annual research grant of Rs. 2,00,000 (for minor equipment, consumables, contingencies, and domestic travel; no manpower support provided)
Annual overheads of Rs. 1,00,000
(Note: Fellows must undertake research objectives independently and seek DIAT consent for absences exceeding eight continuous weeks, except for project-related fieldwork.)
