About The Program

Central Sanskrit University (CSU) Merit Scholarship 2025-26 is an opportunity provided under the Central Schemes of Ministry of Education, Government of India, to students pursuing studies of the Sanskrit/Pali/Prakrit language as a main or optional subject. The scholarship aims to encourage and promote the use of Sanskrit. Selected students will receive a monthly scholarship of up to ₹2,500 and other benefits.

To be eligible, an applicant must:-

  • be pursuing Sanskrit/Pali/Prakrit as a main/optional subject in a recognised university
  • be studying from Class 9 to Ph.D. level
  • have passed the previous qualifying examination with a minimum of 60% marks
  • be able to read and write in simple Sanskrit/Pali/Prakrit

This scholarship is provided under 2 categories, traditional stream and modern stream. The eligibility details for each stream are listed below.

Class 9 or equivalent Must have passed the previous examination with a minimum of 60% marks or equal grade in aggregate/overall and 60% marks or equal grade in Sanskrit/Pali/Prakrit as a subject. The students should have opted for Sanskrit/Pali/Prakrit as a paper of at least 100 marks or equivalent grade in the current class and also in the previous class.

B.A.1st year/ B.A.(Hons.)-1st year or equivalent Must have passed Intermediate/Higher Secondary/12th class or equivalent course with minimum 60% marks or equal grade in aggregate/overall subject and also 60% marks or equal grade in the Sanskrit/Pali/ Prakrit as a subject. The students should have opted for Sanskrit/Pali/Prakrit as a paper of at least 100 marks or equivalent grade in the current class and also in the previous class.
B.A.2nd year/ B.A.(Hons.)-2nd year or equivalent Must have passed B.A.1st year/ B.A.(Hons.)-1st year or equivalent examination with minimum 60% marks or equal grade in aggregate/overall subject and also 60% marks or equal grade in the Sanskrit/Pali/ Prakrit as a subject. The candidate should have passed the previous two semesters/one year or equivalent course. The students should have opted for Sanskrit/Pali/Prakrit as a paper of at least 100 marks or equivalent grade in the current class and also in the previous class.
B.A.3rd year/ B.A.(Hons.)-3rd year or equivalent Must have passed B.A.2nd year/ B.A.(Hons.)-2nd year or equivalent examination with minimum 60% marks or equal grade in aggregate/overall subject and also 60% marks or equal grade in the Sanskrit/Pali/ Prakrit as a subject. The candidate should have passed the previous two semesters/one year or equivalent course. The students should have opted for Sanskrit/Pali/Prakrit as a paper of at least 100 marks or equivalent grade in the current class and also in the previous class.
M.A.1st year or equivalent in Sanskrit/Pali/Prakrit Must have passed Graduation with at least 60% marks or equal grade in the aggregate and also 60% marks or equal grade in the Sanskrit/Pali/ Prakrit. The students should have opted for Sanskrit/Pali/Prakrit as a special subject in the current class/course and at least 100 marks or an equal grade in the previous class.
M.A.2nd year or equivalent in Sanskrit/Pali/Prakrit Must have passed M.A.1st year or equivalent with at least 60% marks or equal grade in Sanskrit/Pali/Prakrit. The candidate should have opted for Sanskrit/ Pali/Prakrit as a special subject in the current class/course.
Ph.D. or equivalent in Sanskrit/Pali/ Prakrit. Must have passed M.A. in Sanskrit/Pali/Prakrit with at least 60% marks in the aggregate.

Note:-

  • The registration of the candidate in the Vidya-Varidhi/Ph.D course should be done before the advertisement and not more than two years from the date of registration.
  • Merit in the modern stream will be calculated based only on the marks obtained in Sanskrit/Pali/Prakrit. In traditional and honours streams it will be calculated based on the overall percentage of the subjects.
  • The minimum marks for applicants are relaxed as 55% for Other Backward Classes (OBC) and 50% for Scheduled Tribe/Scheduled Cast (SC/ST) and Divine Body (PH) students.
  • No relaxation is available for the Economically Weaker Section (EWS). However, applicants of this category can avail of reservation benefits by providing income and asset certificates issued by a competent authority.
Benefits

Selected candidates will receive the benefits as follows:-

Class 11/12/Prak-Shastri-1st year/Uttarmadhyama-1st year/PrakShastri-2nd /Uttarmadhyama-2nd year or equivalent course ₹600 per month for 10 months
Shastri-1st/2nd/3rd/B.A.1st/2nd/3rd year/B.A.(Hons) 1st/2nd/3rd year or equivalent course ₹800 per month for 10 months
Acharya-1st/2nd/M.A.-1st/2nd year or equivalent in Sanskrit/Pali/Prakrit ₹1,000 per month for 10 months
Vidyavaridhi/Ph.D in Sanskrit/Pali/Prakrit ₹2,500 per month for 36 months

Note:-

  • Ph.D./Vidyavaridhi candidates will receive an additional contingency amount of ₹5,000 per year.
  • The scholarship for Ph.D./Vidyavaridhi candidates will be provided for the full duration of 3 years (36 months), subject to satisfactory performance. The candidate must send a progress report and utilisation certificate to the guide and head of the department for scholarship renewal for the upcoming academic years.

Note:- Related details of the applicants will be verified by the Principal/HOD/Dean and countersigned by a respective authority mentioned in section 'F' in the ‘Scholarship Details’ document.

Eligible candidates can apply following these steps:-
Step 1: Click on the 'Apply Now' button below and read all the details.
Step 2: Click on the 'Register' button on the right-hand side of the dashboard and fill in the required details to register. (Note:- If already registered, log in using the registered email ID.)
Step 3: Navigate to the ‘Apply for Scholarship by the Student’ and click on the ‘Student Login for Online Scholarship Application’ tab.
Step 4: Click on ‘Register’ and use the appropriate information to register on the website.
Step 5: After successful registration, use the appropriate credentials to log in.
Step 6: Click on ‘Online Application for Scholarship’, then fill in the required information, upload the necessary documents and submit the application.

Selection Criteria
  • Candidates will be selected by a scholarship committee based on their merit and fulfilment of the eligibility criteria.
  • Preference will be given first to traditional/oriental students, and then to the honours and M.A. students.

Terms and Conditions
  • The scholarship will be disbursed to the candidate’s bank account by Public Finance Management System (PFMS)/ National Electronic Fund Transfer (NEFT)/ Reserve Bank of India (RBI)/ Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT)/ E-transfer.
  • The scholarship amount for 10 months will be provided starting from 1st July and ending on 30th April. Students have to apply every year for the scholarship.
  • Applicants should have an Aadhar-linked bank account in a nationalised bank system to receive the scholarship. For students up to class 12, a joint bank account is allowed.
  • The applicant must not be receiving any other funding during the scholarship period.
  • Undertaking a job or course of study unrelated to the component of Sanskrit will result in disqualification from the scholarship.
  • If the applicant is awarded a scholarship from any other source, they must inform the university immediately.
  • The applicants must not have a gap year in their studies to receive the scholarship.
  • The university can modify the rules of the scholarship and reject any application without stating the reason.
  • Merit Certificates will be provided to those students who voluntarily return the scholarships and the scholarship may be given to needy pupils.
  • If the student is selected for the award of the scholarship but he/she wants to give his/her scholarship to the poor/needy student, the appreciation certificate of such student will be issued instead of the scholarship amount.
  • Students should take admission in Ph.D/Vidyavaridhi in regular mode only and as per UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of M.Phil./Ph.D Degree) Regulations 2009/2016 and any other guidelines issued by the UGC from time to time.
  • The scholarship for Ph.D/Vidyavaridhi students is provided starting from the date of admission. Students in this category must be engaged in full-time research and not accept any other form of funding/assignment.
  • Reasonable breaks in continuous education between postgraduation and Ph.D shall be considered.
  • Scholarships for a second Ph.D. will not be provided.
  • If the progress of the candidate is not satisfactory as reported by the supervisor/head of the department/dean/head of the research institute, the scholarship of the candidature will be terminated.
