About The Program

The British Council offers the British Council English and School Education Scholarships Scheme 2026 in collaboration with the University of Portsmouth and the University of Stirling. The scholarship is a prestigious, fully funded award designed to support experienced English language teachers and teacher educators working within government education systems across Ghana, Kenya, Türkiye, Bangladesh, India, and Sri Lanka. Selected candidates will receive full tuition coverage, along with travel and living expenses.

To be eligible, an applicant must:-

  • be a passport holder and a permanent resident of an eligible country
  • be an active English language teacher or teacher educator working in, or directly with, the government education sector
  • meet the academic entry requirements for the relevant master's programme
  • have a strong commitment to improving national English language teaching (ELT) systems
  • be willing to participate in British Council monitoring and alumni activities after the scholarship

Note:- Private-sector teachers unaffiliated with the government education system are not eligible.

Benefits

Selected scholars will receive:

  • Full tuition fees for the online master’s
  • Return flights to the UK
  • Accommodation on campus during the 2‑week visit
  • Breakfast and living stipend for daily expenses during the visit
  • Visa application fee reimbursement
  • Reimbursement of one English language test fee

Note:- Extra expenses are borne by the applicant on their own, like travel to and from your local visa application centre, any additional personal spending during the UK, and costs for more than one English language test attempt.

Eligible applicants can apply by following these steps:-

Step 3: Apply to a master’s programme at Stirling or Portsmouth University.
Step 4: Receive a conditional or unconditional offer of admission from the university.
Step 5: Once an offer is in hand, submit the scholarship application to the British Council before the deadline.
