About The Program

The Amsterdam Merit Law Scholarship 2026-27 is an opportunity offered by the University of Amsterdam (UvA) to students having applied for a Master’s programme. This scholarship aims to attract and support the education of bright and enthusiastic students from all over the world. The selected candidates shall receive a scholarship of €25,900. 

EligibilityDeadline Date: Closed

To be eligible, an applicant must:-

  • hold a non-EU/EEA passport and not be eligible for support under the Dutch system of study grants and loans
  • apply to a Master’s programme at the University of Amsterdam (UvA) for the first time.
  • have not previously obtained a Master’s degree from the UvA.
  • comply with Dutch visa regulations as outlined by the Dutch Immigration Service (IND).
  • apply to one of the following Master’s programmes:
    • International and European Law
    • European Private Law
    • Law & Finance
    • International Criminal Law
  • have a minimum GPA comparable to one of the following:
    • 4.0 in the USA grading system
    • First Class Honours in the UK system
    • 8.0 in the Dutch EC-system (10-point scale)

(Note: If the applicant holds a non-law bachelor’s degree that qualifies for admission to the chosen LLM programme, only law-related courses will be considered in the GPA calculation.)

The selected candidates shall receive a scholarship of €25,900.

Step 1:

Selection Criteria

The candidates for LLAMS are selected on the basis of the evaluation of the applications by the selection committee. 

Terms and Conditions
  • Applicants must notify the scholarship office as soon as possible throughout the academic year of any change in nationality, type of residence permit, or possible support via Studiefinanciering.
  • To avail the benefits of the scholarship, applicants must enrol at the UvA as a full-time student for the academic year. However, they do not need an admission offer to apply for the scholarship.
