About The Program

The Allianz Climate Risk Award 2026 is offered by Allianz. Launched in 2017, the award celebrates early-career scientists whose research explores the link between climate change and extreme weather events. Winners across the award's three tracks can receive up to €7,000, along with a fully funded trip to present their work at the flagship award event in Munich, Germany.
 

EligibilityDeadline Date: Closed

To be eligible, an applicant must:-

  • be currently pursuing a PhD degree or a post-doctoral position, or be a recent PhD graduate (with the final research defence completed no more than two years before the time of application)
  • be conducting research that helps to understand better how climate change shapes extreme weather events and how resilience against climate-related risks can be fostered
  • be willing to submit a complete application package, including a non-technical essay, before the deadline
  • agree to attend the Allianz Climate Risk Award event in Munich, Germany, on 3 December 2026, as well as any relevant regional event, in person
Benefits

The prize structure varies by track:

  • Global Award: €7,000 for the winner; €3,000 each for other finalists.
  • Thematic Spotlight (Allianz Trade): €7,000 for the winner.
  • Regional Spotlight (Asia): €7,000 for the winner.

All track winners are invited to present their research at the Munich award event, with travel costs covered by the inviting entity.

How can you apply?

Eligible candidates can apply by following these steps:-

Step 1: Click on the 'Apply Now' button below.

Step 3: Navigate to the ‘Supportive Document’ section and download the application form and Declaration Form.
Step 4: Prepare a brief, non-technical essay (maximum 800 words) that outlines the research idea and highlights the central findings. 
Step 5: Fill out and sign the official Application Form and Declaration Form along with supportive documents. 
Step 6: Email the completed essay, forms, and supporting documents to climaterisk-award@allianz.com

Selection Criteria

Applications are reviewed and shortlisted by a jury of senior experts from industry and academia.
