About The Program

The Abhijit Sen Rural Internship Program 2026 (Cohort IV) is offered by the National Foundation for India. This prestigious 50-day field-based research internship provides students with an opportunity to explore rural India and understand the socio-economic challenges faced by diverse communities. Selected candidates will receive a stipend of ₹20,000 upon completion, along with coverage of all travel, food, and accommodation expenses.

EligibilityDeadline Date: 25-Feb-2026

To be eligible, an applicant must:-

  • be a student pursuing undergraduate or postgraduate courses from any Indian university/college/technical educational institution

Note:- Women students and students from Dalit, Adivasi, Tribal, and minority communities are encouraged to apply.

Benefits

The selected students will receive:

  • Stipend of ₹20,000 upon completion and submission of the research report
  • Guided learning on research tools and methods
  • 5-7 days of in-person learning workshop and cohort formation
  • 30 days of fieldwork experience in rural locations (Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Gujarat, Rajasthan, or Maharashtra)
  • Academic mentorship for research report writing
  • All expenses covered (travel, food, and accommodation)
  • Opportunity to get the research report published

Note: Selected interns will be placed in specific states: Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Gujarat, Rajasthan, or Maharashtra.
