About The Program

The AAUW International Fellowships 2025 are offered by the American Association of University Women (AAUW). This prestigious fellowship supports women pursuing full-time graduate or postgraduate study in the United States who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Selected students will receive the award up to USD 25,000 (Approx ₹21,86,625.90) depending on their course.

To be eligible, an applicant must:-

  • be a woman who is not a citizen of the US
  • be enrolled in, or have secured admission to, their first master’s program or an academic/professional doctoral degree at the time of application
  • hold a U.S.-equivalent bachelor’s degree with a minimum 3.5 GPA, and may apply for only one specific Master’s or Doctoral field
  • commit to full-time study during the fellowship year in the US

Note:- Applicants must start their program by 1 September 2026 and finish on or after 30 April 2027.

Benefits

Selected students will receive a fellowship of:-

  • Master’s/1st Professional Degree: Up to USD 20,000 (Approx: INR 17,49,300.72).
  • Doctoral Degree: USD 25,000 (Approx: INR 21,86,625.90).

Eligible applicants can apply by following these steps:-
Step 1:

Selection Criteria

The selection of fellows will be made on a competitive basis. The International Fellowship Panel will make recommendations, which will be subject to final approval by the AAUW Board of Directors. The selection will be made based on the following criteria-

  • Academic and/or professional qualifications
  • Applicant’s commitment to the advancement of women and girls in her home country
  • Proposed schedule
  • Quality and feasibility of the proposed plan of study or research
  • Demonstrated evidence of prior community and/or civic service in the home country
  • Applicant’s country’s need for specialised knowledge or skill
  • Financial need
  • Motivation for graduate study or research

Note: Applicants residing in the home country at the time of application will receive special consideration.

Terms and Conditions
  • Previous recipients of any AAUW national fellowship or grant are not eligible.
  • The members and officers of the AAUW Board of Directors are also not eligible.
  • The fellowship funds are eligible for educational expenses, living expenses, dependent child care, travel to professional meetings, conferences, or seminars, as long as it does not exceed 10% of the fellowship.
  • The fellowship stipend is subject to a 14% tax.
  • The stipend checks are made payable to fellows only, not to institutions.
  • The fellows may work up to 15 hours a week or teach one section of one course, with the prior written approval of AAUW.
  • Fellowship recipients must be non-U.S. citizens who do not hold and are not applying for U.S. permanent residency (green card).
  • Applicants must undertake full-time study in the U.S. at an institution accredited by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • The following individuals are not eligible for consideration:
    • Members of the AAUW Board of Directors.
    • Employees of AAUW, including both paid and unpaid positions, as well as part-time or temporary employees, consultants, interns, and contract workers.
    • Review Panellists.
    • Immediate family members (i.e., spouses and dependent children) of the individuals mentioned above.
    • Previous recipients of AAUW fellowships or grants (excluding Community Action Grants or awards given by local AAUW branches).
