About The Program

The Young Faculty Research Fellowship 2025 is an opportunity provided by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology to Indian researchers with a PhD degree. It aims to encourage specialised research in emerging areas of electronics and IT. The selected candidates can receive a fellowship of up to ₹7,50,00 per annum.

To be eligible, an applicant must:- 

  • be an Indian citizen 
  • be below 40 years of age till the date of application submission 
  • have obtained a first-class PhD degree from a recognised university
  • hold a regular position in an institute
Benefits

The selected fellows will receive the following benefits:-

  • Research fellowship of ₹20,000 per month (in addition to the regular salary).
  • Research contingency grant of ₹5,00,000 per annum for a maximum period of 5 years.

How can you apply?

Eligible candidates can apply for the scholarship through the following steps:-
Step 1: Click on the 'Apply Now' button below. 
Step 2: Click on the 'Register' button and fill in the required registration details (Note:- If already registered, log in using Gmail/Mobile number/Email ID).
Step 3: The applications for YFRFs have to be submitted by the eligible institutions when they are notified by the Ph.D. Cell, DIC; MeitY.
Step 4: The applicant should take a printout of the application form hosted on the institute's website.
Step 5: The applicant should duly fill in the mandatory fields of the application form and attach the required self-attested documents. 
Step 6: Email the application form to the Nodal Officer of the institute with the subject line “Visvesvaraya Application of [Your Name]”.

Selection Criteria

Candidates will be selected based on merit and fulfilment of the eligibility criteria.

Terms and Conditions
  • Proposals for this fellowship are to be submitted through eligible institutions only.
  • For each call for applications, an institution can submit up to 3 nominations.
  • This award is initially for 2 years and shall be extended based on performance to a maximum period of 5 years.
  • During the tenure of this fellowship, fellows are not eligible for any other fellowship from any other government or non-government sources.
  • YFRFS are non-transferable, i.e. research has to be carried out by the institution that has submitted the nomination.  
  • YFRFS under the Visvesvaraya PhD scheme can be availed by candidates only once in their career.
