About The Program

Young Artistes Scholarship 2018-19 invites applications from promising young artists for advanced training in the fields of Indian Classical Music, Indian Classical Dance, Theatre, Mime, Visual art, Folk, Traditional & Indigenous Arts, Light Classical Music and others. The scholarship aims to encourage young talent to acquire theoretical knowledge of the concerned subject/field and also, appreciate the related disciplines.

  • Young artistes with adequate general education in the field of Indian Classical Music, Indian Classical Dance, Theatre, Mime, Visual art, Folk, Traditional & Indigenous Arts and Light Classical Music, etc., are eligible to apply.
  • The applicant must have undergone training for at least a period of 5 years with their Guru/Institutes.
  • The applicant must fall in the age group of 18 to 25 years as on 1 April 2018.
Benefits

A total of 400 scholarships are distributed to at the rate of INR 5000 per month per scholar for a period of 2 years. The scholarship covers candidate's living expenses, travelling, books, art material or other equipment and tuition or training charges, if any.

  • Candidate’s photo & signature
  • One self-attested copy of educational qualifications
  • Self-attested copies of photographs of original works, in case the candidate is applying for a scholarship in the field of Painting, Sculpture and Applied Arts; also, an attested copy of the degree of BFA or equivalent
  • Xerox self-attested copy of Date of Birth (DOB) certificate of the candidate/School Leaving Certificate or equivalent certificate or other admissible evidence of age. 
  • Certificate from the present Guru / Institute
  • Bank account details of the applicant, duly attested by the Branch Manager of the bank
How can you apply?

Eligible candidates can apply online by following the steps mentioned below:

Step 2: Now, click on 'Apply Online Now'.
Step 3: Then, click on 'Registration' to register as the new user.
Step 4: Fill the necessary detail in the registration form.
Step 5: Upload the required document and submit the form.
Step 6: On registering, a username and password are generated for login.
Step 7: Now, click here to login. 
Step 8: Fill the application form and submit it.

Selection Criteria

On the basis of the evaluation of the candidates' applications, the candidates will be called for interview before an expert committee where the selection will be on the basis of their merit.

  • The candidates will be given scholarships in the following fields:
    • Indian Classical Music: Classical Hindustani Music (Vocal and Instrumental) Classical Carnatic Music (Vocal & Instrumental, etc.)
    • Indian Classical Dance/ Dance Music: Bharatnatyam, Kathak, Kuchipudi, Kathakali, Mohiniattam, Odissi Dance/ Music, Manipuri Dance/ Music, Thangta, Gaudiya Nritya, Chhau Dance/ Music, Sattriya dance
    • Theatre: Any specialized aspect of theatre art, including acting, direction, etc., but excluding play writing and research, Mime
    • Visual Arts: Graphics, Sculpture, Painting, Creative Photography, Pottery & Ceramics, etc.
    • Folk, Traditional and Indigenous Arts: Puppetry, Folk Theatre, Folk dances, Folk Songs, Folk Music, etc.
    • Light Classical Music: Thumri, Dadra, Tappa, Qawali, Ghazal, Light Classical music based on Carnatic Style, etc., Rabindra Sangeet, Nazrul Geeti, Atulprasad
  • The result will appear on the website of the Ministry of Culture.
  • Award letters will be sent by speed post.
  • The candidates must provide the following details for any future correspondence
    • Name of the Scheme
    • Name of the candidate in capital letters
    • Subject/field of training
    • Registration Number
