To be eligible, an applicant must:-
- be an Indian citizen
- be a woman candidate between the ages of 27 to 45 years old (Note: Relaxation of 3 years in the upper age limit will be made for candidates belonging to the SC/ST/PH category).
- hold a postgraduate degree in Basic/Applied Science such as M.Phil., M.Tech., M. Pharm., and other related fields, or a B.Tech. degree
Note:-
- It is mandatory to register for a Ph.D. degree within 6 months of receiving the recommendation letter.
- Women in regular employment are not eligible for the WISE-PhD program.
Benefits
Selected candidates will receive a monthly stipend of ₹31,000, HRA as per norms, a research grant of ₹1,00,000 per year, and a fixed annual overhead of ₹50,000.
How can you apply?
A candidate must follow the below-mentioned steps to apply for the fellowship -
Step 1: Click the ‘Apply Now’ button below.
Step 2: Click on the 'Register' button on the right-hand side of the dashboard and fill in the required details to 'Register'. (Note - If already registered, log in using the registered email ID.)
Step 3: Navigate to the 'New PI Registration' option on the right-hand top corner of the dashboard and click it.
Step 4: Fill in all the required details and complete the registration.
Step 5: Now, follow the prescribed proposal format to create a proposal and submit it to complete the application.

Selection Criteria
A preliminary screening will be done of the project proposals received under WISE-PhD and a final selection would be made as per the recommendations of the Subject Expert Committees (SECs).
The final decision of DST will be communicated to the applicants only after obtaining due administrative and financial approvals.

- Proposals must be submitted only through online mode.
- Physical copies of the proposal are not required.
- The Principal Investigator (PI) must thoroughly review the application for completeness before final submission.
- Only after the evaluation outcome of the previous submission is received, can another proposal be submitted. The PI should retain a copy of the submitted proposal for their records.
- Applications with incomplete or inaccurate formatting as well as those lacking essential information or documents will be promptly rejected.
