About The Program

The Wells Mountain Foundation (WMF), USA invites applications for the Wells Mountain Initiative (WMI) Scholars Program 2019 from undergraduates from developing countries. The scholarship has been initiated to financially support the meritorious and talented students in the developing countries and to support education, literacy and community among students. The scholarship provides the opportunity of winning a scholarship of up to USD 3000 per annum to the selected scholars to use in favour of the cost incurred during the term of the degree.

The following applicants are eligible for the scholarship program: 

  • Should have completed the 12th standard
  • Should have a considerably high academic background
  • Should have applied for a graduate degree course
  • Should plan to return back and work in the home country after graduation
  • Must have participated in various community services prior to applying and should be willing to continue
Benefits

The selected scholars will receive a scholarship ranging from USD 300 to USD 3000 per annum during the term of the scholarship which shall be used in favour of:

  • Tuition and fees
  • Books and materials
  • Other related costs
Documents

The following documents are required to be attached along with the application: 

  • A clear photo of the applicant
  • Two essays (topics of which are stated on the application form)
  • Personal essay statement
  • Two recommendation letters
  • Copy of official transcript of grades from secondary school
  • Official grading key to interpreting secondary school grades
  • Copy of official transcript of grades from tertiary studies (if applicable)
  • Official grading key to interpret tertiary grades
  • Official results from the applicant's national exam
  • Official grading key to interpreting scores on the candidate's national exam

Note: There are prescribed guidelines for the academic recommendation letter to assist the students.

Step 3: Fill in the application form with the required details.
Step 4: Attach the necessary documents.
Step 5: Submit the application.

  • For Offline/By Post Application: 

Step 1: Download the application form.
Step 2: Fill in the application form with the required details.
Step 3: Attach the necessary documents along with the application.

Note: The applicants are advised to submit their application via the online portal as it can be edited and visited several times to avoid any mistakes.

Terms and Conditions
  • The program's ideal candidate should have the following qualities: 
    • Successfully completed secondary education, with good to excellent grades
    • Shall be willing to study in his/her country or another country in the developing world
    • Plans to live and work in his or her own country after graduation
    • Has volunteered prior to applying for this scholarship and/or is willing to volunteer while receiving the WMI scholarship
    • May have some other funds available for his/her education, but will not be able to go to school without a scholarship
  • The official grading keys must be provided by the school of the applicant who is issuing the grades or the government issuing the national exam.
  • Grading keys that are not official will result in the applicant's application being disqualified. Contact the secondary school, university, or government for this document.
  • File format types accepted are: JPG, PNG, GIF, DOC, DOCX, PDF (version 10 or newer).
  • The documents saved as a PDF file in Adobe versions 9 and older will appear blank and the student's application will be considered incomplete.

Q. When can an applicant apply for the WMI Program?
A. 
The applicant will be able to begin applying for the scholarship on December 1, 2018. Applications will be accepted for four months. All applications must be received until midnight EST on April 1, 2019.

 

Q. Does the application have to be in English?
A. 
Yes. If a recommendation letter is not in English, a verified translation must be provided along with the original recommendation in the foreign language. It doesn’t need to be a notarized or sworn translation.

 

Q. For what fields of study does the University provide scholarships?
A. 
All fields, although tend to favour helping professions such as healthcare, social work, education, social justice, as well as professions that help the economy and progress of the country, such as IT, engineering, agriculture and business.
