About The Program

WeCare Fellowship invites entries from students of Class 11 and above for WeCare Fellowship National Essay Competition on Environment 2020.

The participants are required to write an essay expressing their views on environmental issues. The key objective of this competition is to recognise and felicitate writers among Indian students. The theme of the essay competition is Waste Management. The winners will receive a cash prize up to INR 25,000 and also get an opportunity to attend Creative Writing Course to be conducted by the organisers. In addition, the winners will get an internship opportunity with corporate partners supporting this initiative. 

Participants can write on any of the the following sub-themes: 

● Plastic: From Waste to Wealth
● My Waste, My Responsibility
● Waste in My Community
● Waste Segregation at Source
● Waste to Energy: Market & Policy

The competition is open for students of Class 11, 12 and above level. 

Benefits
  • The first prize winner will receive a cash prize of INR 25,000.
  • The second prize winner will receive a cash prize of INR 15,000.
  • The third prize winner will receive a cash prize of INR 10,000.
  • A total of 10 Environment Thinker Prizes of INR 2,000 each will also be given. 
  • Opportunity to attend Creative Writing Course to be conducted by the organisers
  • Internship Opportunity with Corporate Partners 
How can you apply?

Eligible candidates can submit their entries through following steps -
Step 1: Click on the 'Apply Now' button below. 
Step 2: Click on the 'Submit Your Essay' button. 
Step 3: An application form will open. Fill in all required details and upload the essay. 
Step 4: Submit the entry. 

Important Note:

  • The essay must be written in English or Hindi only.
  • Word limit is 500-1500 words.
  • The Essay must be original and unpublished, as any form of plagiarism will result in disqualification 
  • Only one submission per author will be accepted. Multiple or incomplete submissions will lead to disqualification.

Winner announcement: December 18, 2020

Selection Criteria
  • The selection will be based on internal and external evaluation. 
  • The internal evaluation involves shortlisting of 100 best essays on the basis of -
    • Software led plagiarism, grammar, aesthetic, and literature check
    • Number of views/likes on essays
  • The external evaluation involves the selection of winning essays after evaluation and vetting done by the Jury.

  • The essay must be written in English or Hindi only. 
  • The word limit for the essay is 500-1500 words. 
  • The essay must be original and unpublished, as any form of plagiarism will result in disqualification of the essay. 
  • Only one submission per author will be accepted. 
  • Multiple or incomplete submissions will lead to disqualification. 
  • During the evaluation, the priority will be given to originality and clarity of the content, quality of the analysis and research and language and structure of the essay. 
  • Understanding of Socio-Economic issues will also add to overall scoring. 
  • The selected essays will be published at The Hyphen and the winners will be invited to attend a Creative Writing Course organised by WeCare. 
  • Additionally, the partners of WeCare will offer internship opportunities to the winners.
