About The Program

The World Bank Group Young Professionals Program (YPP) 2026 is a premier leadership development program for high-performing professionals passionate about global development. The program offers participants the opportunity to build technical expertise, gain international experience, and contribute to projects addressing pressing global development challenges.

EligibilityDeadline Date: 30-Sep-2026

To be eligible, an applicant must:-

  • hold the nationality of a World Bank Group member country, as demonstrated by an officially issued passport or equivalent document
  • have completed a graduate-level (master's) degree or higher qualification in a relevant field before the September start date
  • have 2 to 6 years of professional experience in a related work area (Full-time doctoral research in a relevant field may count towards required experience, provided the degree is substantially complete with all written work submitted before the September start date)
  • demonstrate an excellent command of spoken and written English (fluency in additional languages is an advantage)
  • not currently be a World Bank Group staff member at the time of application
  • not have a close relative working at the World Bank Group, or a spouse in a direct/indirect supervisory relationship

Note: Applicants must also select one of the following streams at the time of application (with the option to indicate up to two alternative streams)

Benefits

Selected candidates shall receive:

  • A 2-year term staff appointment
  • Upon successful completion and placement in a role for an additional 5 years upon completion of the internship.

  • Access to the Young Professionals Academy (YP Academy): a structured 2-year learning curriculum covering onboarding, language learning, business/leadership skills, operational training, and mentoring
  • Exposure to work across the World Bank, IFC, and MIGA
  • Dedicated mentorship and direct engagement with senior leaders

  • Salary and benefits are non-negotiable and determined based on pre-set criteria applicable to all prospective staff

Question: Who can apply to the YPP? 
Answer:
Individuals with distinctive technical skills and leadership potential from diverse backgrounds worldwide, who meet the nationality, education, experience, and English proficiency eligibility criteria, and who are not current WBG staff members.

Question: Is there an age requirement for the WBG YPP? 
Answer:
No age requirement exists, but the program is designed for early-career professionals with 2 to 6 years of relevant work experience.

Question: Can I apply if I currently work for the World Bank Group? 
Answer:
No, applicants must not hold a staff appointment (including term, open, short-term, or extended-term consultancy/temporary appointment) at the WBG at the time of application. Current JPAs may apply to this cycle only; interns completing their assignment by September 30 may also apply.

Question: Can I use AI tools or outside help for my application? 
Answer:
No, applicants must confirm their responses are entirely their own original work; use of AI-based tools, chatbots, or third-party assistance may lead to dismissal of the application.

Question: When are offers issued? 
Answer:
Prospective Young Professionals are informed of the intent to offer a place in the program in late January or early February.

Question: What type of employment is offered upon selection? 
Answer:
A 2-year staff appointment on a term contract at GF-level, renewable for an additional 5 years based on performance.

Question: Can I defer my start date if selected? 
Answer:
No, the program does not offer start date deferrals due to its cohort-based learning structure.
