About The Program

Walter & Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research invites applications from candidates interested in pursuing a Ph.D. in Medical Biology at the institute for its International Ph.D. Scholar initiative. The top applicants for the program shall be awarded scholarships on the basis of their academic record, relevant experience and a video-conference interview. 
 

EligibilityDeadline Date: Closed

To be eligible for the scholarship, an applicant must: 

  • Have a 4-year bachelor's degree or a master's degree in a relevant discipline including a research component of at least 25% of one year of full-time study and have achieved a minimum weighted average of 80%, or a qualification and professional experience considered to be equivalent
  • Have cleared the minimum English language requirements (Band 7) 
Benefits

Walter & Eliza Hall Institute International PhD Scholarships provide the following benefits:

  • A living allowance of AUD 30,000 per year
  • Scholarship top-up of AUD 2000 per year
  • Relocation allowance 
  • Health insurance coverage
  • University tuition fee offset

  • Academic transcripts (include university grading scale and English translation, if applicable)

Selection Criteria

In selecting applicants, the selection committee will consider applicants’:

  • prior academic performance and, if relevant, professional qualifications;
  • understanding of the research question to be explored;
  • performance at an interview;
  • motivation and capacity to complete the course in a timely manner;
  • relevant prior research and/or professional experience; and
  • the referee reports.
