About The Program

UQ-IITD International Joint PhD Program 2018 invites applications from graduates and postgraduates with backgrounds in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, humanities and social sciences. It aims to provide opportunities for students like working closely with world-class research groups and securing an international dual-badged PhD degree from the University of Queensland (UQ) and Indian Institute of Technology (IITD).

Applicants who wish to apply need to fulfill the following eligibility conditions:

  • An applicant who has secured a master's degree in engineering/technology/sciences with a CGPA score of 6.50 on a 10.00 point scale or an aggregate percentage of 65%, is eligible to apply.
  • If a student having a master's degree in engineering/technology/sciences has secured a high score in GATE, UGC-NET, CSIR, ICAR, ICMR, DST-INSPIRE, he/she will be given due consideration.
  • An applicant who has secured a bachelor's degree in engineering/technology with a CGPA score of 8.00 on a 10.00 point scale or an aggregate percentage of 80%, is eligible to apply.
  • If a student having a bachelor's degree in engineering/technology has secured a high score in GATE, UGC-NET, CSIR, ICAR, ICMR, DST-INSPIRE, he/she will be given due consideration.
  • An applicant who has secured a master's degree in arts or humanities with a CGPA score of 6.50 on a 10.00 point scale or an aggregate percentage of 65%, is also eligible to apply for the program.
  • If a student having a master's degree in arts or humanities has scored high in UGC-NET, he/she will be given due consideration.
  • An applicant without a valid GATE score or CSIR/UGC/DBT award can be considered for the PhD degree if he/she has a work experience of minimum 2 years and meets all the other eligibility conditions.
  • Those Indian applicants who are applying from countries other than India should have scored high in any national exam or international exam (like GRE).

Documents

Eligible candidates need to submit the scanned copies of the following documents to support their application:

  • Applicant's academic CV
  • Statement of Purpose (SOP) as prescribed
  • All the post-secondary academic mark sheets and certificates of the applicant and grading scale of the institution
  • Award certificates and transcripts for all completed post-secondary study
  • Proof of fulfilling the requirements for English language proficiency
  • Two referee reports from persons who can best comment on the applicant's prior research experience (UQ will directly contact the referees, so applicant needs to enter their details into the application form)
  • Scanned copies of all competitive entrance tests

Note: If any of the documentation of the applicant is not in the English language, UQIDAR will need a copy of the original language document and an officially translated copy.

Eligible candidate can apply online by following the steps mentioned below:

Step1: Click here to start the application process.
Step 2: Click on 'Start application' to start the process of registration.
Step 3: Enter valid email ID and password and then, click on 'Continue' to register as the new user.
Step 4: Now login using the registered email and password and complete the profile by filling the sections 'Personal Information', 'Citizenship and Residency', 'Permanent & Mailing Address', 'Permission to Release Information' and 'Previous / Current Students and Staff'.
Step 5: Now, go to the program you're applying for and select 'Start application'.
Step 6: Fill in the required details in all the sections that come under the selected program.
Step 7: Upload the required documents, review the application and submit it.

Last date to apply: 31 October 2018
Review (and interview) of applications by UQ- IITD Supervisors: 31 October 2018 – 15 November 2018
Announcement of shortlisted candidates: 16 November 2018
Interviews at IITD: 6 December 2018 – 8 December 2018

 

Selection Criteria

The applications will be shortlisted on the basis of eligibility, background and SOPs. After the being shortlisted, the applicants will have to appear for a Skype/telephone interview with the supervisors from UQ and IITD for the projects they have been shortlisted for. Based on this interview, the applicants will be called for further interview which will consist of a written test. This written test will include an assessment of ability to critically assess a research paper. The applicants will also have to undergo an interview with the Academy Joint Admissions Sub-committee (AJAS).

Terms and Conditions
  • The selected students will spend 3 years in India and a minimum of one year in Australia while pursuing this program.
  • The admission process occurs twice in a year: April-May and October-November.
  • Each project undertaken by the candidate will have at least one supervisor at IIT-D and one at UQ.
  • Applicants can choose up to 3 projects under this program.
  • Offers given to candidates will always be 'conditional offers of candidature'. They will be confirmed after the receipt of original certified transcripts and further documentary evidence as requested by the UQIDAR.
