About The Program

The University of St Andrews invites applications for the University of St Andrews Doctoral Scholarship in Earth Sciences and Chemistry 2020 from postgraduate research (doctoral) degree applicants. This scholarship aims at providing an opportunity to the students who wish to pursue their degree at the University of St Andrews. The selected scholars will be given an opportunity to undertake doctoral research in ‘The Roles of Lipids in Coral Biomineralisation and the Effects of Future Climate Change’. The awardees will receive a full tuition fee waiver along with an annual stipend.

To be eligible, an applicant must:

  • Have completed a master's degree from a recognized university
  • Not hold a Doctoral degree
  • Be enrolled in a doctoral degree at the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences and School of Chemistry
  • Be able to commence the course in September 2020
Benefits

The selected scholarship will receive the following benefits -

  • Full tuition fee for the duration of the course (for up to 3.5 years).
  • Annual stipend payable at the standard UK Research council rate (the 2019-2020 annual rate is GBP 15,009)
  • Tuition or maintenance award

A Personal Statement that should serve as a cover letter for the research stating the applicant’s research project and also highlighting the suitability of the project.

Selection Criteria

Applicants will be selected based on the selection criteria decided by the Selection Committee.

Terms and Conditions
  • The recipient must maintain satisfactory academic performance throughout the program.
  • The recipient is required to inform the Scholarship team if there is any change in the circumstances of the recipient that may impact his/her scholarship status.
  • If found breaching any rule, the scholarship shall be terminated.
  • The recipient must inform the scholarship team if he/she receives any additional funding from another institute.
  • The recipient will get an opportunity to work with Dr Nicola Allison and Professor Terry Smith, based in the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences and the School of Chemistry.
