About The Program

The Queens Commonwealth Essay Competition 2018 invites applications from students up to 18 years of age under the senior (14 to 18 years of age) and junior (under 14 years of age) category. The objective of the scholarship is to provide an opportunity to young writers so that they tell the world that how Commonwealth can address global challenges and work to create a better future for all citizens. 

EligibilityDeadline Date: Closed

For Junior category:
Applicants who are born after 31st May 2004 (under 14 years of age) are eligible to apply.

For Senior category:
Applicants who are born between 2nd June 1999 and 31st May 2004 (14-18 years of age) are eligible to apply.

Benefits

The Queens Commonwealth Essay Competition 2018 provides one week trip to London for winners and runners-up to experience educational and cultural events, culminating in a special awards ceremony. A number of Gold, Silver and Bronze awards will be given in both the categories, in order to reward excellence in writing. All participants will receive a certificate of participation too.

Topics for senior category:

  • The road to a safer future.
  •  How does education contribute to a fairer future?
  • ‘Healthy, Wealthy, Happy, and Free’: is one more important than the others?
  •  Future generations have rights too, which must be defended. Discuss.

Topics for junior category:

  • What does a safer future mean to you and your community?
  • Write a recipe for a common future: what ingredients will you need? What is the best
  • method for making it? What will it look like?
  • ‘A Day in the Life’. Imagine you are your country’s Head of Government for the day: how will you build a better future for young people?
  • Our Common Earth

Selection Criteria

The selection will be based on essay writing.

  • All entries must be submitted in English language only.
  • The entries of the students should best convey their message through a poem, essay, folktale, story, letter, script, diary entry, monologue or other styles of writing. 
  • The use of drawings and photos are also encouraged, especially in the junior category.
