A Judging Panel comprising of at least five people (Economist journalists and other persons) will make the final decision. The selection will be made on the following basis:
- Quality of the essay submitted
- The language and grammar

The Economist invites submissions for The Economist’s Essay Competition for Young People 2019. Participants between 16 and 25 years of age group can apply and stand a chance to win a trip to one of the three Open Future events, to be held in Hong Kong, Manchester and Chicago on Saturday, October 5th, 2019
The applicants between 16 and 25 years of age group can apply.
The winner will get the following awards:
The participants can directly participate in the competition by submitting their essays. Follow the steps to apply:
Step 1: Draft an Email with “Open Future essay contest” in the subject line.
Step 2: Write the essay on the topic "What fundamental economic and political change, if any, is needed for an effective response to climate change?"
Step 3: Place the essay in the text body of the mail (Note: Essays submitted as attachments will not be considered).
Step 4: Mention the applicant's name and age in the mail.
Step 5: Send the mail at OpenFuture@Economist.com.
Last date of application: 31 July 2019
Declaration of results: on or by 15 September 2019
