About The Program

Tata Innovation Fellowship 2024-25 is an opportunity provided by the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India, to recognise and reward scientists with expertise and contributions in the field of Biological Sciences and Biotechnology to bring forward real-world solutions in agriculture, healthcare, environment, and other life sciences related areas. The selected fellows will receive a monthly stipend of ₹25,000 and an annual contingency grant of ₹10,00,000 in addition to their regular salary from the institution.

To be eligible, an applicant must:-

  • be an Indian citizen below the age of 55
  • hold a Ph.D. (Life Sciences, Agriculture, Veterinary) or Master's (Medical Sciences, Engineering, Biotech)
  • have lived in India for at least 5 years before applying for this fellowship
  • have put in at least 10 years of work in the specific area
  • hold a position in an institute/university/organisation and should be involved in research

Note:- Applicants receiving the benefits of any other fellowship cannot receive this fellowship simultaneously. They have to opt for one out of the two.

Benefits

The selected fellows shall receive:-

  • A monthly stipend of ₹25,000 in addition to the regular salary from their host institution.
  • An annual contingency fund of ₹10,00,000 for meeting the research expenses including consumables, equipment, travel, manpower, etc. 

Note:- Fellows who receive their salary from an international organisation, shall be entitled only to the contingency fund.

  • Birth proof including Birth certificate, Passport, Aadhaar card, Voter ID, etc.
  • Academic transcripts including marksheet and certificates of PhD and Master's 
  • Detailed Curriculum Vitae (CV) highlighting details related to education, research experience, publications, and achievements
  • Proof of Indian nationality including Passport copy, Aadhaar card copy, or other government-issued document, etc.
  • A detailed list of peer-reviewed publications with full references
  • An original and detailed research proposal outlining the proposed project for the fellowship

Step 4: Fill in all the details mentioned, upload the necessary documents, type the captcha on the screen and, click the ‘Submit Your Application’ button.

Selection Criteria

10 fellows shall be selected annually on the basis of their achievements in the field of life sciences and the fulfilment of eligibility criteria.

Terms and Conditions
  • Tata Innovation Fellows can apply for and receive regular research grants from other government science and technology agencies.
  • The fellowship may be extended for up to two additional years based on expert/review committee recommendations (no physical presentation required).
  • Fellows must inform DBT of any patents granted, products developed, or commercialized during the fellowship period.
  • Fellows must submit annual progress reports to DBT. 
  • The project's progress shall be renewed annually based on a written report submitted to DBT. Funding for the project will continue based on a satisfactory report.
  • DBT must be acknowledged in all publications (papers, reports, etc.) resulting from the research supported by this fellowship.
  • Participating agencies must maintain the confidentiality of collected information and data, with technology transfer rights reserved by DBT.
