About The Program

Student Summer Research Fellowship 2018-19, Switzerland is open to all students worldwide. The Department of Computer Science, ETH, is committed to increasing diversity in the computer science area. The Computer Science Department at ETH Zurich offers this program to allow undergraduate and graduate students to obtain research experience in the department during the summer months. The selected scholars will receive a scholarship worth CHF 1,750 and other benefits.

To be eligible, the applicants must:

  • Be enrolled in a Bachelors and Masters program in computer science or closely related fields
  • Have the expected graduation date earliest in the spring the year after the fellowship
Benefits

The students will receive a scholarship worth CHF 1,750 that also covers housing, living costs, travel, and visa expenses.

  • CV
  • Official academic transcripts from home university
  • Letter of motivation or personal statement
How can you apply?

Follow the steps below to apply for the fellowship:
Step 1: Visit the SIROP link here
Step 2: The candidates need to register with SiROP. Click on "Register Now" in the menu on the left.
Step 3: Try to find the university on the list provided or create an account using an email address.
Step 4: After logging, the candidates will be able to find "Apply now" at the top.
Step 5: Provide personal details and upload the required documents.
Step 6: Submit the application form.

Important Dates
  • Application period: 1 November 2018 – 31 December 2018 at 12 noon (Central European Time).
  • Applicants will be notified by e-mail by early February 2019
  • The program will take place from 1st July – 31 August 2019
Selection Criteria
  • The candidature will be evaluated on the basis of the documents provided.
  • An interview may be conducted with the shortlisted candidates.

Terms and conditions

  • The candidates must have 2 years of study completed by summer 2019.
  • The duration of the fellowship is fixed for the full 2 months of July and August.
  • The letter of motivation must include why candidates have chosen a proposed scientific area of research. Explain what they hope to accomplish by coming to ETH and how it will support their academic or professional goals and prepare them for a career in research.
  • The candidates should aim to write a personal statement in not more than a full A4 page.

Q. How flexible is the program when it comes to the start date? 
A. The program begins on July 1st and ends on August 31st. This means the duration of the fellowship covers the full two months of July and August. There is no flexibility with the dates.

 

Q. Is the research project given by the professors or are students expected to come up with their own research topics?
A. Professors will suggest one or two research topics.

 

Q. If applicable, am I required to obtain the appropriate visa to participate in the program?
A. It is applicants' responsibility to acquire relevant visas.
