To be eligible for the scholarship, an applicant must:
- Be a student with domicile of North-Eastern Region (NER) who has completed Class 12 (or equivalent)
- Have secured admission in general degree, technical or professional courses in a recognized College/University/Institute
- Not have parental annual income exceeding INR 4.5 Lakhs
Benefits
The UGC will award 10,000 scholarships each year under the scheme. General degree course students will receive INR 5400 per month, and technical/medical/professional/paramedical course students will receive INR 7800 per month. The scholarship will be renewed for each year of the degree course, subject to good conduct and maintenance of prescribed attendance.

- Domicile Certificate
- Proof of annual income
- Annual Progress Report and Proof of continuation of studies (For Renewals)
How can you apply?
Applicants can apply for the scholarship online on the National Scholarship Portal, by following the below steps:
Step 1: Register as a new student
Step 2: Fill all the details and register.
Step 3: Login with given ID.
Step 4: Registered mobile number will get an OTP.
Step 5: Enter OTP number and confirm.
Step 6: Fill the application form.
Step 7: Submit your application
Important Dates
The last date for submission of applications is November 30, 2018
Selection Criteria
- Distribution of slots amongst the states of NER will be done on the basis of population census(last)
- If slots in a particular state remain vacant due to non-availability of eligible candidates, the unfilled slots will be distributed equitably amongst other states
- Reservation for Persons with Disability (PwD) will be made as per Government of India norms
