The University of Warwick invites applications for Sociology Departmental MA Scholarship 2020 from students commencing MA study in Sociology in 2020. The selected students will receive an award of up to GBP 5,000. There will be five awards available for Home and EU candidates, and five awards for overseas candidates. The part-time candidates will receive GBP 2,500 per year for 2 years.

    Eligibility

    To be eligible, an applicant must:

    • Hold an offer to a taught master's program in Sociology
    • Have applied to university and have paid the application fee no later than 24 April 2020
    • Have submitted an application to the MA program before submitting the scholarship application
    Benefits

    A total of 5 overseas candidates will be selected for the award who will receive a scholarship of GBP 5,000 (for full-time applicants) and GBP 2,500 over 2 years (for part-time applicants).

    How can you apply?

    Follow the steps below to apply for the scholarship:
    Step 1: Candidates have to apply for the MA program in the department before applying for the scholarship.
    Step 2Download the application and read the instructions before filling the form.
    Step 3: Provide information on personal details, funding sources, qualifications, etc.
    Step 4: Provide information on case support.
    Step 5: Submit the application form by email to Sociology Taught Programmes Team on socpgt@warwick.ac.uk.

  • Supporting documents submission last date: 1st May 2020
Selection Criteria

The candidates will be selected based on the following criteria:

  • Academic performance (70%)
  • The case for support (30%)

Note: This is not a need-based scholarship, so the financial situation will not be taken into account.

Terms and Conditions
  • A maximum word limit of 600 words should be maintained in terms of the case for support. It should be different from the statement of purpose and should be submitted along with the application. The case support should cover the following questions:
    • What is the motivation to do a postgraduate degree in a specialization?
    • What are the interesting and relevant individual attributes (eg, background, work experience, extracurricular activities, etc)?
    • What unique perspectives can applicant bring to the table?
    • Whether the quality of the statement is concise, well-articulated, engaging or not?
  • The aim is to make a decision on applications within six weeks of the closing date. If the applicants do not receive the results of their application within seven weeks of the closing date, they may assume that their application was not successful.
  • Candidates may apply concurrently to other funding sources; however, successful candidates who receive major tuition funding elsewhere will be disqualified.
  • Successful candidates must obtain an offer from the university before taking up the award.
