About The Program

Senckenberg Global Fellowship 2026 is an opportunity offered by the Senckenberg Leibniz Institution to Ph.D. and Postdoctoral students. It aims to support excellent research, expand and strengthen the worldwide cooperation network and contribute to the global exchange of knowledge. The selected candidates will receive up to €2,700 monthly.

*Founded in 1817, the Senckenberg - Leibniz Institution for Biodiversity and Earth System Research (SGN) is a leading research institution in the field of biodiversity. It also houses the Frankfurt Natural History Museum, which is one of the largest museums of its kind in Europe.

EligibilityDeadline Date: Closed

To be eligible, an applicant must:-

  • be a member of one of the Global South countries (including India)
  • hold a Master’s or PhD degree in one of the eligible research areas
Benefits

Selected candidates will receive:

  • For Ph.D.: €1,600 per month
  • For Postdocs: €2,700 per month
  • Travel allowance: Up to €1,200 (one-time)

  • Letter of support from your host
  • Curriculum vitae with publication list
  • Certificates of Master's/Ph.D.
  • Recommendation letters (optional)
How can you apply?

Eligible applicants can apply by following these steps:-

Selection Criteria

A selection committee will review candidates approximately eight weeks after the application deadline based on:

  • Scientific potential to meet proposal aims
  • Scientific excellence of the work
  • Prospects for developing follow-up projects for funding

Women and underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply, with preference for equally qualified applicants with disabilities.
