About The Program

The Scottish Government and various Scottish universities invite applications for the Scotland Saltire Scholarships (SSS) 2019 from postgraduate degree applicants in the areas of technology, science, creative industries, medical and healthcare sciences, and clean and renewable energy. It is an incredible opportunity for applicants to study in a foreign country with globally-acclaimed universities. The scholars have the opportunity to win up to GBP 8,000 as a scholarship grant in favour of the tuition fee.

To be eligible, an applicant must: 

  • Have an unconditional or conditional offer of place at any Scottish university on an eligible course.
  • Be able to demonstrate that he/she can meet the costs of living in Scotland and the remaining tuition fees.
  • Not have previously completed an undergraduate degree in Scotland.
  • Not be a previous holder of a Saltire Scholarship.
  • Meet the language requirements of the course.
  • Be applying for a full-time postgraduate level course in any of the subjects mentioned below: 
    • Science
    • Technology
    • Creative industries
    • Healthcare and medical sciences
    • Renewable and clean energy
    • Should be a full-time student and be delivered in Scotland. 

Note: The students pursuing studies at any Scottish University campus through online or distance learning are not eligible for the scholarship. 

Benefits

A total of up to 50 scholars will be selected under this scholarship programme. They will receive a scholarship grant of GBP 8,000 each in favour of the tuition fee of the course applied for.

Selection Criteria

An applicant must demonstrate the following skills to have a successful application:

  • An interest in studying in Scotland and/or at a specific Scottish university.
  • An aspiration to work and receive an education in a global context and take a position of leadership in their chosen career path. 
  • The will and the necessary interpersonal and communication skills which are required to be a participant in the programme of activities that accompany the scholarships.

Q. Can an applicant apply for a Saltire Scholarship at any other UK Institution? 
A.No, the Saltire Scholarship is a program initiated by the Scottish Government and the applicant will only be eligible to avail the scholarship to study at a Scottish institution.

 

Q. Does an applicant need to apply to a Scottish University before-hand? 
A. Yes, an applicant needs an offer from his/her university before his/her application can be further considered.

 

Q. If a course has a duration of 2 years, will an applicant receive the scholarship for both the years? 
A. No, the scholarship scheme is eligible for 1 year only and cannot be renewed by the scholar next year.
