About The Program

Open Society Fellowship 2018 invites applications from journalists, activists, academics, and practitioners of various fields who are open to innovative and unconventional approach towards fundamental issues of the present social-economic scenario.

  • Journalists, activists, academics, and practitioners of various fields are eligible to apply.
  • Applicants must be proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Applicants must have a deep understanding of the major themes of the proposition for which they are applying.
Benefits

The selected candidates will receive the following benefits:

  • A stipend of USD 80,000 or 100,000 depending on work experience, seniority and current income. 
  • Apart from this, the fellows will also be eligible for a project budget including expenses like travel (flight fare and hotel accommodation), visa costs, part-time research assistance, etc. 
Documents
  • The applicant needs to provide a letter of inquiry that includes the topic of the project, proposed work product and relevance to the proposition
  • Applicant needs to submit an updated CV.

Step 3: Now, fill in the rest of the application form and upload the required documents.
Step 4: Finally, submit the application form.

Selection Criteria
  • An expert committee will review the letters of inquiry within 6 weeks.
  • After the review, shortlisted applicants maybe asked to submit the full proposal and preliminary project budget.
  • Based on all the evaluation of applications, candidates will be shortlisted for the fellowship.

Terms and Conditions
  • The letter of inquiry must include the following points:
    • What is the central argument of the applicant's proposed project as it relates to the statements?
    • How does the applicant's project advance/challenge current thinking?
    • Who is/are the intended audience/s?
    • What are the potential work products?
  • The fellowship session can begin up to a year after the final selection of the fellow.
  • Fellows who wish to work in a country of which they don't have citizenship must comply with the visa requirements, however, the costs related to it will be covered by the foundation itself.
  • The fellowship does not fund any kind of degree or non-degree study at any university or institution.
  • The applicants are strongly advised to submit their all supporting documents electronically via online application link, however, if the applicant has hard copies which he/she thinks is relevant to the project, it should be mentioned at the end of the project proposal.
