About the Program

ONGC Scholarship to Meritorious Students is an initiative of ONGC Foundation that aims to financially support meritorious students belonging to SC/ST/OBC and General categories pursue their higher studies. Under this scholarship, the students studying in the first year of Engineering, MBBS, MBA or Master's in Geophysics/Geology programme are provided with a scholarship of INR 48,000 per annum to complete their education.

ONGC Foundation, a trust created by ONGC, has introduced this scholarship as part of its CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiative to help meritorious students coming from marginalised sections of the society.

  • ONGC Scholarship 2016 for General and OBC Meritorious Students

    Eligibility
    1. The scholarships are open for students studying in India and for Indian nationals only.
    2. Student should be belonging to economically backward general and OBC categories pursuing 1st year of Graduate in Engineering or MBBS course or 1st year of Master’s Degree in Geology/Geophysics or MBA.The scholarship scheme  shall be  admissible only for pursuing full time regular courses approved by the required statutory authority (ies) such as UGC/MCI/AICTE etc.
    3. Students pursuing four years Engineering/MBBS courses/Two years Masters courses in Business Administration and Two years Master’s Degree in Geology/Geophysics are only eligible.
    4. Candidate should have obtained minimum 60% marks or equivalent CGPA/OGPA in 12th class for Engineering and MBBS disciplines. Similarly 60% marks (average marks of all the years) or equivalent CGPA/OGPA are necessary in graduation for P.G. Courses i.e. Geology/Geophysics/MBA. In case of CGPA/OGPA, conversion certificate from the College/University must be provided. Where the Colleg/University certify that they do not have any such conversion methodology/ formula, the ratio of CGPA/OGPA will be converted in to percentage.
    5. The specific zone for student shall be decided on the basis of the location of School/University/College/Institute in which the student was studying for the   qualifying examination (i.e.  12th  class  for  Graduate  courses  and  Graduation  degree  for  Post  Graduate courses) irrespective of the domicile of the student.
    6. The  gross  joint  family  income of the  student  shall  not  exceed Rs 2.00 lakhs (Rupees Two lakhs) per year from all sources. Income certificate must be issued  from the Competent District Revenue Authority not below the rank of Tehsildar. Translated copy of Income certificate is required in case the issued certificate is not in Hindi or English and should be duly  certified by the legal authority.
    7. The age limit of the applicant is maximum 30 years as on 1st September 2016 for the academic session.
    8. The candidates should not availing or intend to avail any other financial assistance/scholarship assistance/scholarship from any other source.
    9. The final list of the scholarship beneficiaries shall be posted on website www.ongcindia.com by the end of December 2016.
    10. The award of the scholarship shall not confer any right of employment with ONGC group of companies or its joint ventures.

    To be eligible, an applicant must:

    • Be an Indian national studying in India only
    • Be a 1st-year student of Graduate Engineering/MBBS/Master's course in Geology/Geophysics or MBA
    • Have secured a minimum of 60% marks in class 12 for Engineering/MBBS course and a minimum of 60% marks in graduation for PG courses in Geology/Geophysics/MBA (Note: The minimum OGPA/CGPA should be 6.0 on 10 points scale of grading system) 
    • Have a gross family income of less than INR 4.50 Lakhs per annum (i.e. INR 37,500 per month) from all sources
    • Not be more than 30 years of age as on 1st July 2020

    To be eligible, an applicant must:

    • be enrolled in one of the following courses: 
      • Engineering
      • MBBS
      • MBA
      • Master's degree in Geology or Geophysics
    • have secured at least 60% marks in Class 12 for engineering or MBBS programme OR
    • have secured at least 60% in graduation for PG courses in Geology/Geophysics/MBA
    • have an annual income of less than ₹ 2,00,000 from all sources

    Benefits:

    The selected meritorious economically weaker General category students pursuing professional courses in Engineering, Medical stream, and Master’s degree courses in Business Administration, Geology, and Geophysics will receive a scholarship of 48,000 per annum.

Terms and Conditions
  • 50% scholarships are reserved for girl students.
  • The scholarship amount shall be paid on a yearly basis after completion of the academic year. It will be deposited directly in the bank account of the student through the ECS facility. 
  • Once awarded, the scholarship shall be continued every year till the completion of the course subject to the promotion of the student to the next year of his/her course.
  • Students need to maintain a minimum of 60% or 6 grade points out of 10 in each year’s semester examination to ensure the continuation of the scholarship.
  • The scholarship shall be discontinued if the candidate is not promoted to next year by their respective Institute/College/University.
  • For the continuation of the scholarship, the student will have to send an ‘Application for Renewal' in the prescribed format. 
  • In case the student opts for any different scholarship subsequently after awarding of ONGC scholarship, he/she has to refund the entire scholarship amount received from ONGC Foundation.
  • The selected candidate must not be availing the benefits of any other scholarship or financial assistance from any other source. However, students receiving tuition fee waiver/reimbursement of tuition fees from the State Government are eligible for this scholarship.
  • The scholarship is admissible for full-time regular courses only.
  • The specific zone where a student can apply for this scholarship depends on the location of the University/Institute/College in which the student was studying for the qualifying examination.
Frequently Asked Questions
  • What is the selection process for this scholarship?
    • The selection of a candidate will be made on the basis of aggregate marks obtained in the qualifying examination prescribed for each eligible course of study. 
    • In case of students having equal marks in the qualifying examination students with lower family income will be selected.
    • Preference shall be given to students from Below Poverty Line (BPL) families and other students shall be considered only if a sufficient number of students from BPL families fulfilling the eligibility criteria are not available.
