About The Program

Columbia University, New York invites applications for the Obama Foundation Scholars Program 2020-21 from rising leaders of the world. The program aims to recognize and support the outstanding individuals working for the betterment of their communities. Selected scholars will receive a monthly stipend, furnished studio apartment, tuition fees, basic medical, dental and life insurance, air travel and participation into the leadership development program.

To be eligible, an applicant must:

  • Have proven commitment to service and leadership within a community, region or country outside the United States
  • Be an emerging leader who has made meaningful contributions to his/her field and is now at a “tipping point” in his/her career
  • Be fluent in English (verbal, written and spoken)
  • Have the ability and inclination to positively shape the future of their community
  • Have a demonstrated commitment to humility, integrity, inclusivity, stewardship, fearlessness, imagination and teamwork

Terms and Conditions
  • Recommendation letters should not be written by family members or friends.
  • Tuition and fees would be provided for up to four courses.
  • Requirement of proof of English proficiency test will be waived off for the candidates who have completed an undergraduate degree in a country where English is the official language or have qualified TOEFL, IELTS, or PTE exams in the last five years and scored at or above the minimum requirement of 100 (TOEFL-IBT), 600 (TOEFL-PBT), 7.0 (IELTS), or 68 (PTE Academic).
